I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin

Why is that the only part of the speech anyone ever remembers or recites?  I know there were comments about the Red hills of Georgia, the injustice of Mississippi, and the vicious racism in Alabama. But this is what everyone identifies with. It's a great concept, to not be judged by the color of one's skin, but how about finishing the sentence? 

Martin Luther, the man himself, suggested that I should judge a man not by his skin, but by the content of his character. I agree 100%. In the Trayvon Martin case, people insisted racism, and refused to acknowledge the content of his character. In fact, just bringing up character was racist according to a lot.

In the recent NOLA case, racism is pushed, but we are supposed to ignore the content of the juvenile's character. Judging his character tells me that he's been a thief in the past, and a reasonable person could assume that he was about to strengthen that character flaw when he jumped the fence. 

Furthermore, there are a lot of Americans that scream racism, but do not actually know the true meaning of racism. It pisses me off, and I hope that we will one day get to a point in society where a large percentage of the public has a better sense of self awareness. If you can't get a job because you have been to prison for felony crimes, it's not the color of your skin that is hurting you. If you are asked to leave a private business because you are being rude and have pissed off the management, its not because of the color of your skin that you were asked to leave.  If you try to steal someone's belongings and are seriously injured or killed by the owner, its not the color of your skin that led to your death.

It isn't a hard concept to grasp.

it is when you've been told otherwise your whole life, when you've been told that all your problems are someone else's fault, that if not for the color of your skin, you could be somebody but since you are red/yellow/black/brown, you have an excuse for failure.

Those who embrace this excuse know nothing else.

We're actually struggling with ethnocentrism. 

True racism is mostly a thing of the past.  Very few people actually believe blacks are inferior due to genetics.  However, their culture and socioeconomic influence is what many people don't understand and don't want to accept. 

For the record, I don't believe ethnocentrism is a bad thing.

When I get pulled over for doing 56 in a 55, and some prick with a buzz cut demands "Ok, right now what I'm gonna need for you to do for me right now is to step out of the car right now and put your hands where I can see them right now" and then administers a DUI test when I'm totally sober, I can just know that cops are dicks and I'm annoyed and pissed at the guy, but when it's over, I move on. But if the same thing happens to a black guy, they've been indoctrinated their whole life to be victims, and every thing negative that ever happens to them in their life is 100% always because of their race. So to them, that cop's a racist, even though he treated me exactly the same way. He's just a dick.

There are things they are not as good at as other races.
