Depth Chart Question

Depth Chart Question
« on: August 24, 2013, 04:58:30 PM »
Was looking at Auburn's depth chart - http://auburn.rivals.com/cdepthtext.asp - and noticed that Craig Sanders is ahead of Carl Lawson.

Is that updated correctly?  I thought I had read that Dee Ford being out meant Lawson would be the starter.

Also of note - Trovon Reed is listed as a starter.

That's not the final depth chart. Also, the "starters" on the DL doesn't matter, they'll rotate a lot...same with the RB position.

Sanders has been disappointing.  I looked forward to seeing him somewhere in the SEC.  I thought he would do well anywhere.

Quote
AUBURN | Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn released an official depth chart on Wednesday as the Tigers are preparing to host Washington State on Saturday night at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. CT.

Nick Marshall will lead Auburn into action on Saturday night.

There's no surprise at quarterback, Malzahn put that to rest by recently naming junior Nick Marshall the starter. Sophomore Jonathan Wallace or freshman Jeremy Johnson will back-up Marshall.

Junior Tre Mason is first team tailback, followed by junior Cameron Artis-Payne. Mason rushed for 1,002 yards last season, while Artis-Payne rushed for 2,048 yards in California junior college. Junior Corey Grant adds additional depth at tailback.

Along the offensive line, junior Reese Dismukes will start at center, he's started 23 games during his career. Redshirt freshman Alex Kozan will start at left guard, junior Chad Slade will start at right guard, sophomore Greg Robinson will start at left tackle and sophomore Patrick Miller will start at right tackle.

Sophomore Avery Young will back-up Miller, sophomore Devonte Danzey will back-up Kozan, junior Tunde Fariyike will back-up Dismukes, redshirt freshman Jordan Diamond will back-up Slade and redshirt freshman Shon Coleman will back-up Robinson.

Junior Brandon Fulse or junior C.J. Uzomah will start at tight end.

Sophomore Sammie Coates or Uzomah will start at one receiver position. Junior Jaylon Denson or Fulse will start at another receiver position. Junior Quan Bray will start at the third receiver position, backed up by junior Trovon Reed. Sophomore Ricardo Louis is slated to start at a fourth receiver position with freshman Marcus Davis as the top reserve.

The Tigers' starting defensive tackles will be junior Angelo Blackson and senior Jeffrey Whitaker. Blackson has 32 career tackles and 8.5 tackles for loss. Freshman Montravius Adams has emerged as second team behind Blackson. Adams was a five-star prospect and the nation's No. 2 defensive tackle in the Class of 2013. Sophomore Jabrian Niles will back-up Adams. Junior Gabe Wright will back-up Whitaker, and junior college transfer and sophomore Ben Bradley will back-up Wright.

With expected senior starter Dee Ford out with a leg injury, senior Craig Sanders will start at defensive end, followed by senior Nosa Eguae or freshman Elijah Daniel.

Junior Ladarius Owens will start at the other end position, backed up by senior Kenneth Carter or freshman Carl Lawson. Owens just converted back to end during fall camp after working at outside linebacker during the spring.

Senior Jake Holland earned the starting job at middle linebacker. Sophomore Kris Frost will backs up Holland, with freshman Cameron Toney slotted for third team in the middle.

Sophomore Cassanova McKinzy is first team weakside linebacker. Sophomore Anthony Swain or redshirt freshman Javiere Mitchell are second team weakside linebacker.

Junior Justin Garrett will start at the 'star' position after a stellar spring and fall camp. Junior Robenson Therezie, who has bumped from cornerback to running back and back to cornerback the last two years, will be the top reserve at the 'star' position.

Senior Chris Davis and junior Jonathon Mincy are the first team cornerbacks. Freshman Kamryn Melton will back-up Mincy, while senior Ryan White will back-up Davis.

Junior Jermaine Whitehead and sophomore Joshua Holsey are slated to start at safety. Whitehead will be a "field" safety, while Holsey is manning the "boundary" safety. Holsey played cornerback during his true freshman season in 2012. Senior Ryan Smith backs up Whitehead, while converted junior quarterback Kiehl Frazier will back-up Holsey.

Mason and Grant will be the kick returners, followed by Bray and Louis. Davis will start at punt returner, followed by Bray and Reed.

Frazier's second string.  We have five true freshmen on the second string.  Patrick Miller is a starter.
