Police in Spokane, Washington are searching for two young suspects after a World War II veteran was severely beaten in a parking lot Wednesday and later died from his injuries.

The Spokane Police Department says in a press release officers responded to reports of an assault Wednesday and found the victim in his car with serious head injuries. He later died Thursday in the hospital.

Authorities on Thursday released surveillance photos of the two suspects, who they describe as African-American males between the ages of 16 and 19.

Friends identified the victim as 88-year-old Delbert Belton, and say he was sitting outside a lodge for the Fraternal Order of the Eagles when he was attacked.

KXLY-TV reports that Belton served in the Army during World War II and was shot in the leg during the Battle for Okinawa.

"He was a tough old bird, I'll tell you that," Ted Denison, Belton's friend for 23 years told the Spokesman-Review.

The station says he went on to work for Kaiser Aluminum for 30 years. Friends say he was known as “Shorty,” and enjoyed playing pool and working on cars. His wife passed away several years ago.

"He was just such a nice person for God's sake. I don't think Shorty had a mean bone in his body," friend Betty told KXLY-TV.com.

"It does appear random. He was in the parking lot, it appears he was assaulted in the parking lot and there was no indication that he would have known these people prior to the assault," Spokane Police Major Crimes Detective Lieutenant Mark Griffiths told the station.

Denison told KXLY-TV he cannot comprehend how someone could have carried out such an attack. "I thought of him more as a dad than I did a friend really," Denison said.

"He was always there for me when I needed him," Denison said. "We'd joke back and forth. We were always having fun, some sort of fun."

"I don't understand how somebody could do this. I really don't," he told the station.

"Anybody that didn't get to know him missed out on a wonderful angel in their life," Lillian Duncan told the Spokesman-Review.

The Spokane Police Department is asking anyone with information to call their hotline at 456-2233.

The ‘Race Conversation’ Network
MSNBC has mastered the art of making unracial things racial.

‘Why do they seem so determined to also make it racial?”

So asks Joy-Ann Reid, the managing editor of The Grio, a web magazine owned by NBC News whose mission is to “focus on news and events that have a unique interest and/or pronounced impact within the national African Americans audience.” The “they” in question are conservatives and journalists asking, among other things, why President Obama hasn’t inserted himself into a new criminal-justice case the way he did in the Trayvon Martin tragedy.

The irony-impaired Reid was asking that question about a heinous murder in Oklahoma, where, according to police, an Australian student was shot by a black youth with the help of two friends (one of whom was white) “for the fun of it.” Police allege that the bored teens spotted Christopher Lane jogging and decided to follow him and shoot him in the back.

Reid asked the question while guest-hosting a show on MSNBC, a network that has mastered the art of making unracial things racial. Just two days earlier, Reid had insisted that there’s a “neoconfederate thread” running through the gun-rights movement. Whatever that means.

Then there’s MSNBC fixture Chris Matthews, who insists, with considerable regularity, that any criticism of Barack Obama is driven by “white supremacy.” Critics of Obamacare, Matthews claims, believe that “the white race must rule.”

Another MSNBC host, Martin Bashir, recently insisted that outrage over the ongoing scandal at the IRS is really nothing more than coded racism. The IRS is the new “N-word,” according to Bashir. “So this afternoon, we welcomed the latest phrase in the lexicon of Republican attacks on this president: the IRS. Three letters that sound so innocent but we know what you mean.”

Lawrence O’Donnell, another MSNBC host, assured viewers during the Republican National Convention last summer that Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell’s joke about Obama’s playing too much golf was really a deliberate racist dog whistle. “These people,” O’Donnell insisted, “reach for every single possible racial double entendre they can find in every one of these speeches.”

And that of course leaves out Al Sharpton, an MSNBC host who can best be understood as the racial equivalent of an ambulance chaser.

Against this backdrop, Reid’s asking why anyone would bring race into the discussion is a bit like a pornographer asking, “Why make this about sex?”

But let’s get back to her question. One high-minded response might be that conservatives are bringing race into this discussion because they are simply doing what has been asked of them by Reid and countless others, including the president and the attorney general: They’re trying to have that coveted “national conversation about race.” Of course, the conversation that the conversation-mongers want is entirely one-sided; they only want to talk about why their ideological enemies are racists. Any other discussion is an incomprehensible and unjustifiable tangent distracting us from what they want to hear and say.

But the truth is, that’s not what is going on. To the extent that people are bringing up race it is to turn the tables, rhetorically at least, on people like Reid and her MSNBC colleagues for their relentless — some might say shameless and disgusting — effort to exploit the George Zimmerman murder trial.

Recall that there was no evidence Zimmerman was motivated by racial animus, a fact so inconvenient to NBC News that it unethically edited Zimmerman’s 911 call to make it sound like he was racist. (NBC later apologized and Zimmerman is rightly suing.) This inconvenient truth was also why numerous news outlets insisted on describing Zimmerman as a “white Hispanic” — to bend the facts to fit the preferred narrative.

Australian and British newspapers — which do not care about imposing a monolithic liberal narrative on race — are reporting that Lane’s alleged murderers may have been driven by motives other than boredom. But even if the initial reporting proves accurate and these thugs were just trying to break the monotony of the dog days of summer, the lesson for the MSNBC crowd should be the same.

From Obama down to his cheerleaders in the press, liberals have declared unremitting war on their ideological opponents, cynically polarizing the country along racial — and, when possible, gender — lines. They, not conservatives, have been the ones dragging race into any and every political dispute they can. This disgusting strategy has worked well for them, galvanizing minority voters and tarring the Republican brand. I don’t particularly welcome the fact that conservatives are fighting fire with fire, but you can hardly blame them given how liberals like Reid have been asking for it for so long.

This was good, however, fails to mention the racist tweets which are actual evidence of a hate crime, especially when offered in conjunction with no other motive outside of "boredom". It fails to juxtapose that with Zimmerman's countless civil services in the black community, such as organizing awareness campaigns for the black homeless man that was beaten nearly to death by white teens, or that he mentored black children, and was raised alongside black family members, or took a black girl to prom, and voted for Obama, and oh yeah...zero racist tweets.

Protesters Rally Outside Marigny Home of Man Accused of Shooting Unarmed Teen



Tempers flare in the Marigny as a Justice for Merritt rally is interrupted by protesters footsteps from the crime scene.

It has been four weeks since 33-year-old Merritt Landry was arrested for allegedly shooting 14-year-old Marshall Coulter in the head outside his home.

Neighbors say the unarmed teen was caught on camera climbing Landry’s iron fence at 2am. According to court documents Landry fired one shot after Coulter made a threatening move.

Some say he was just protecting his wife and toddler,  others say the crime was racially motivated.

“Homeowners that live in this area deserve justice and tge right to protect themselves,  their families and their property,” says Landry supporter Ron Evans.

“We’re not centralizing how common this situation is and that there are racial dynamics at play,” says protester Emily Danielson.

“I don’t think he was targeting anybody for any other reason,  for race or anything else, I think he was protecting his family,  protecting his property, ” says political analysts Jeff Crouere.

Crouere believes the District Attorney will present the case to a grand jury to see if they’ll decide to drop charges.

Landry faces attempted second degree murder charges and is due back in court Friday.

(WMC-TV) - Family and friends grieve the loss of a beloved nurse. David Santucci was murdered early Monday morning while walking home on South Main in downtown Memphis.

David Santucci's mother is still trying to make sense of the murder of her 27-year-old son.

"I cried and I fell to pieces, and my family is there, and they pick me up they make me better can help. I breathe in," said Darlin Fugit.

Santucci had just started his job as a floor nurse at Methodist Hospital. His co-workers called all Monday talking about him.

"He was already touching people's lives ... That he was such a caring person, and that he carried that over not only in his professionalism but his personal life," said Fugit.

The Houston High School ice hockey star was shot to death early Monday morning as he walked along South Main on the way to where he lived.

Police say Mario Patterson, Dondre Johnson and Jerrica Norflett admitted to the crime. Thirteen minutes after the shooting police arrested the trio at Foote Homes public housing just over a mile away from the scene of the crime. Investigators say Norfleet was driving the Gray Pontiac Grand Am, and Patterson and Johnson got out of the car and tried to rob Santucci.

Memphis Mayor A C Wharton says the police must step up efforts to get illegal guns out of the hands of young people.

"We have to never, never, never say we have done enough and get comfortable," said Wharton.

Fugit says her son would have forgiven his attackers.

"I honestly believe that if he were to meet these kids that did what they did to him, he would want them to know that they knew Jesus Christ," she said.

Johnson and Patterson are behind bars on murder-related charges with no bond. Jerrica Norflett was charged with accessory after the fact first degree murder and has a $750,000 bond.

Santucci's funeral is scheduled for Friday.
