I just hope the fan base will accept an African American at QB.

After last year I think we would accept Barney the dinosaur if he could hit a wide open receiver, run when needing to and not curl up in a ball at the sound of the ball being snapped. (This statements excludes Jake Holland)

Well, there you have it. Gus Malzahns first cruiten class presser at Auburn. I'm very happy with how these coaches came in hammered away. Malzahn and staff came in immediately seeing the needs and addressed. He talked about the type of players they are looking for and that being the blue collar hard worker, something that seems to be lacking on the current roster.

Couple of notes from press conference:

-They only recruited Mix for a week
-Hinted that there could be a couple more
-Malzahn works better off very little sleep.

Well now that we know how Gene runs a program, no wonder he was so effective in 2010.

Missed the presser. Been like a kid at Christmas all day. I thought the Chiz era was the best staff of cruiters we ever had and it prob was at the time. But CGM's staff did more in a small window. They may be the best ever. Granted, many of the big timers we got were already on our board pre-Malzahn but we kept them and added more.

He really seems to be a smart workaholic and not just a workaholic. I think he may end up being better than we could have ever imagined. We haven't seen him HC an SEC team yet but I'm feeling like he knows what he's doing. He had a plan from the get-go and it's working so far.

Here is the feed.  I can't monitor it all day.  Some others feel free to amend as they come in.
These do not include the three that are already enrolled.
http://www.auburntigers.com/signingday/

1.   Elijah Daniel, 6-4, 250 defensive end from Avon, Indiana
2.   Tony Stevens, 6-3, 175 wide receiver from Orando's Evans High
3.   Dominic Walker, 6-2, 195 lb wide receiver from Evans High in Orlando
4.   Marcus Davis, 5-10, 165 lbs, from American Heritage in Delray Beach, Fla.
5.   Kamryn Melton, 5-11, 175 lbs, from Dothan High
6.   Peyton Barber, 5-10, 211 lbs, RB from Milton, GA
7.   Nick Marshall, 6-2, 210 lb QB from Garden City CC
8.   Carl Lawson is a five-star 6-2, 250 lb defensive end from Milton High in Alpharetta, GA
9.   Khari Harding, 6-1, 205 lb defensive back from Santa Fe High in Edmond, Oklahoma
10. Jeremy Johnson, Alabama Mr. Football from Montgomery's Carver High - 6-5, 215 lb QB
11. Earnest Robinson, 6-2, 205 lb receiver from Pinson Valley HS
12. Kenny Flowers, 6-2, 230 lbs LB from Hutchinson CC and Parkview High in Lilburn, GA
13. Cameron Toney, 6-2, 215 lb linebacker from Huntsville
14. Jason Smith, 6-1, 180 lb quarterback from Mobile's McGill Toolen HS
15. Deon Mix   OL   6-4 / 315   Batesville, Miss. / South Panola
16. Mackenro Alexander   DB   6-0 / 185   Immokalee, Fla. / Immokalee
17. Daniel Carlson     K    6-5 / 195 Colorado Springs / Classical Academy
18. Montravius Adams, 6-3, 310 lb defensive tackle form Dooly County, Ga.
19. Brandon King, 6-1, 210 lb defensive back from Highland CC
20. Johnathan Ford   6-0 / 192  RB from New Hope (Alabama) High
So...now that it's said and done (I guess?)

I know the general consensus is we did pretty good.

Who did we lose today that we thought we had a good chance of getting yesterday?
Reuben to Bammer (We thought we might get him early yesterday, and good riddance we didn't)
Tashawn Bower to LSU
Mackenzie Alexander to Clemson

Who did we get that we didn't think we would?
Elijah Daniel from Ole Miss
Deon Mix from MSU

~50/50 shots
Montravious Adams - Believed to be UGA lean, with Bama & Clemson possibility
Johnathan Ford - UGA & UT

Also, I think Carl Lawson will be the best signee of this class, mostly off the field, but on it too.

Am I missing anything?

Trying to compartmentalize exactly what took place to get a better feel for our net gain/loss. Thinking overall it was definitely net gain.

I think you hit the nail. We had some big gets that you didn't mention and I know you didn't mention them because they never wavered. The only thing I have different is I thought Ford was leaning to us after he decommitted and Montrae was by most accounts a Clemson lean from what I read till the last visit with us. The services had him AU last night.

Coaches talk a lot about filling needs and we talk a lot about stars and rankings. I think they did marvelous at filling needs. RB, WR, LB, DL esp.

If I had my druthers (shout out to Bebes), we would have another big LB or two. A+ class though. And I believe this class will win an SEC champ.

Presser:

Quote
Malzhan on Signees:

Here are some quick notes on Malzahn's comments on the signees:

Elijah Daniel--Great pass rusher, his previous relationship with Rodney Garner really helped.

Tony Stevens--Good athlete at wide receiver. Dameyune Craig helped land him.

Dominic Walker--Big, physical, fast receiver. Chance to be special.

Marcus Davis--He has had a lot of success turning high QBs with running back skills into college wide receivers. Smart, tough prospect, Malzahn said.

Kamryn Melton--Appreciates him and other defensive commitments hanging in with Auburn through the coaching change.

Peyton Barber--Phenomenal senior year, Malzahn said. Would have been even more heavily recruited if he wasn't hurt as a junior.

Nick Marshall--Felt QBs were a need. Great athlete. Very strong arm. Has a chance to play right off the bat for Auburn at quarterback.

Carl Lawson--One of the keys to the class by staying with the Tigers when other guys "went south." Phenomenal player who loves Auburn, the coach said.

Khari Harding--One of the bigger hitting safeties Malzahn has seen. He fills a need in this class.

Jeremy Johnson--One of the centerpieces of the signee class. Helped recruit. Loves AU. The coach said he believes his focus will be on playing quarterback at Auburn, not basketball.

Earnest Robinson--Gus said he recruited him going back to his soph. year and appreciates him staying on board as an early commitment to the Gene Chizik staff.

Kenny Flowers--Malzahn said the juco signee can help immediately at linebacker.

Cameron Toney--Very good kid. Hung in there with Auburn as an early linebacker commitment.

Jason Smith--He's electric player who was MVP of the AL-MS All-Star Game.

Deon Mix--"We just started seriously recruiting him about a week ago." Coach Melvin Smith helped. Roadgrader type.

Mackenro Alexander--Feel like he has a big upside, tough, smart, good tackler.

Brandon King--Felt like depth needed at safety. Physical guy.

Montravius Adams--I don't know if I have seen a bigger athletic guy than the defensive tackle. Garner really helped recruit him to Auburn.

Daniel Carson--Hung in there with AU. Big leg as a kicker.

Johnathan Ford--Lot skill, good hands as a running back, a position of major need.

Cameron Artis-Payne--He will provide good depth at running back.

Ben Bradley--Very athletic, strong defensive tackle who has a chance to contribute early.

Devonte Danzey--The early enrollee from junior college should help at guard and center.

Quick question. Wasn't there a big D-Lineman from JUCO that was considering AU.  Toby something or other.  Or Jack...or someone else.  Just seems there was a 290 lb. JUCO guy there was talk about a couple of weeks ago.  Anyone know who I might or might not be talking about?

I looked and all I see was Corn Elder, a 5'11" 170lb "Athlete" that is still undecided.  I seriously thought they were waiting on a big JUCO DT also though.

Whew. That's a relief.  I thought we'd go and do something stupid like offer the 3rd rated JUCO lineman in the nation, especially as undersized as he is.

Srsly, wonder if there's a problem with him...grades..attitude...
