My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

AUBURN, Alabama -- Gus Malzahn's first official signee as Auburn's head coach has put his commitment in writing.

Cameron Artis-Payne, a 5-foot-11, 210-pound running back out of Allan Hancock Community College in Santa Maria, Calif., signed a national letter of intent with Auburn on Wednesday, the first day that junior college transfers can officially sign.  Artis-Payne will enroll in January.

“I chose Auburn because of the history of the school and because they put out a lot of great running backs,” Artis-Payne said in an Allan Hancock release when he first committed.  “I’m really excited about starting my Division I career.”  Artis-Payne, rated a three-star back by Rivals, Scout and  247Sports, is a powerful runner who put up big numbers at the junior college level in both seasons at Allan Hancock.

A Harrisburg, Penn. native, Artis-Payne exploded onto the national scene with 1,364 yards and 18 touchdowns, then followed up that performance by breaking the hallowed 2,000-yard barrier this season.
Artis-Payne rushed for 2,048 yards and 25 yards on 261 carries, breaking Allan Hancock records for single-season yardage, touchdowns and career yardage.
"Cameron is a self-made man," Bulldogs head coach Kris Dutra said.  "Through hard work, he made this happen for himself, and I’m very proud of him."

Artis-Payne, a physical back, played in a pro-style formation at Allan Hancock. Under Dutra's scheme, Artis-Payne spent most of his time working behind a fullback in a traditional I-formation, although the Bulldogs did use some spread concepts.  After briefly going through doubts in the wake of Gene Chizik's firing, Artis-Payne reaffirmed his commitment after talking to Malzahn, who assured the runner that his offense is based around a two-back, power-running game, according to the sites that cover Auburn recruiting -- AuburnUndercover.com, AuburnSports.com and Inside the Auburn Tigers.

"I’ve always wanted to play in the Southeastern Conference, and I’ve achieved that,” Artis-Payne said.  “It’s a dream come true for me.”

In all seriousness, when Rueben Foster was committed, all we heard was how overrated he was. Fat, slow, etc. Now that he has decommited?

Better than advertised? Auburn High's Reuben Foster hits that mark and everything else (VIDEO)

In the 5-star culture of college recruiting, it is not always easy for players to live up to the considerable hype.  When they participate in postseason events like last week's Alabama-Mississippi Classic, some get lost in the wash. Then there are players like Auburn High's Reuben Foster.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pounder stood out as an alpha male on a field filled with future Saturday stallions during All-Star practices and the game itself.
REUBENFOSTER.AUBURN.JPG Reuben Foster of Auburn High School was one highly-touted recruit who actually more than lived up to the hype at the Alabama vs. Mississippi All Star football game at Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, Ala., Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012. (Julie Bennett / al.com)

He's also a big recruiting target for both Alabama and Auburn and was at one time committed to both schools.

Is Foster truly the real deal? Al.com's Matt Scalici and Jeff Sentell discuss why or why not and other standouts like Spain Park quarterback Nick Mullens in this week's Central Alabama recruiting digest below.

Foster set the tone on the first carry by the Mississippi team last Saturday with a violent stop of Darrell Robinson that went for no gain. It was easily the biggest hit at any of the last five All-Star Classic games.

Want to channel your own inner Mel Kiper? Go ahead. Check out this Youtube clip of Foster's big thump and judge for yourself if he's got what it takes to thrive in the SEC.

What did he think about that play?

"I try to set the tone real quick when it comes to an All-Star game," Foster said. "Offenses are supposed to score a lot of points at all-star games and put on a show. If you play defense, that's not what you want to see. We weren't going to let that offense put on a show and score a lot of points on us."

It was a hit that would've fit right in with a Ray Lewis or Takeo Spikes highlight clip.

Alabama coach Chris Yeager, also the coach at Mountain Brook, compares Foster to Alabama great Cornelius Bennett. He was a graduate assistant in Tuscaloosa when "Biscuit" was making his name. That fits.

But Yeager noticed another factor Foster brings to the field that separates him into a truly elite talent.

"Foster is an incredible athlete," Yeager said. "But the thing about him is his personality. The kid gravitate to him. When he says 'Charge' and all the players even on this team say 'Which direction?' and you just see he's an unbelievable leader with a lot of energy. Every hit, you saw it, every hit is a highlight."

He's also a big recruiting target for both Alabama and Auburn and was at one time committed to both schools.

Did other in-state players try to recruit him back to their school last week? Not if they're smart.

"Trust me they don't talk to me about that because I tell them not to," Foster said.

The last time Auburn signed a JUCO running back was coming off a losing season. Signed Rudi Johnson. Auburn won the west that year.
