Gus is, from the start, a Wing T guy.  He says "we do this until you stop it, then, we have one answer for the adjustment."  Schematically it really is very simple, and why it broke down when Chiz tried to put the brakes on him.  Way too predictable, and only works at this level when the defense has no time to think, and adjust, and make subs.
That's a pretty big risk.  It seems like the right defenses could scheme to take Gus' offense completely out of it's element.  Is this why his offense seemingly either worked very well, or fell flat on it's face at times?

His offenses never really fell flat on its face till his last year as OC at Auburn.

Two sides to that coin.  Gus can scheme, like with formations and motions, to get you in the fronts and coverages he wants too in order to create the assignment conflict he wants.  Again though, the whole point is to keep it simple for the offensive players to execute fast, but look complicated to the defense.  But, if you  have Clint Moseley at QB, it really matters not how much you scheme, or if you run the flexbone, the Air Raid, the lonesome polecat, or the facemelter offense.   It aint gonna be pretty.

Not to mention a career running offense with a lot more success than failure.

I'm too old to flexbone. I lean toward the easy spread nowadays.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Quote
Gus Malzahn reportedly interested in Dameyune Craig

By Chris Fuhrmeister on Dec 12, 11:26a 5

As he continues to fill out his staff, Gus Malzahn may attempt to bring former Auburn great Dameyune Craig home.

Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn is still working to build his coaching staff, and he may be eyeing Florida State quarterbacks coach Dameyune Craig, according to CoachingSearch.com.

Sources tell me that Gus Malzahn is considering adding FSU assistant Dameyune Craig to his staff. bit.ly/xpkQEX
    — Pete Roussel (@coachingsearch) December 12, 2012

It's likely that Craig is being considered more for his recruiting prowess, as opposed to his coaching abilities. Not that there's anything wrong with Craig's coaching abilities, but offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee will coach Auburn's quarterbacks. If he's hired, Craig will likely coach running backs or wide receivers and act as Auburn's recruiting coordinator. He coached receivers at South Alabama in 2008 and '09, giving Craig a connection to the fertile Mobile recruiting ground.

According to Tomahawk Nation, Craig currently makes $205,000 per season with FSU, a number Auburn should be able to easily top.

As a recruiter with the Seminoles, Craig has earned a sterling reputation. Since his arrival in Tallahassee in 2010, Florida State has finished ninth, second and second in the 247Sports team recruiting rankings. The Seminoles' current class is ranked 11th by 247Sports. Auburn and Florida State have faced off in several battles for high-profile recruits over the last few years, and the players that have committed to the Seminoles, including defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, cornerback Ronald Darby and quarterback Jameis Winston, have all had Craig as their primary recruiter.

Those battles with Auburn have led to some fans in orange and blue to hold ill will toward Craig. Despite being an Auburn alum, he is rumored to have used negative tactics against the Tigers, including allegations of racism.

Craig played quarterback for Auburn from 1994 to '97, starting his final two years. In his senior season, he passed for 3,277 yards, 18 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, leading Auburn to a 10-3 record and its first appearance in the SEC Championship Game. The Tigers fell in Atlanta by one point, 30-29, to Peyton Manning's Tennessee Volunteers.

I read the bold after posting. Hopefully WR coach, at least? Can't see why he'd coach RBs...

Would be a huge hire.  He recruits Mobile and south AL like a mad man.  Now if we could just add T-Rock to that and steal Vandy's OL coach, then I will start to get warm fuzzies.  I would love for Searles to leave TX and come home, but would take Herb and be happy.
