Looks like Malzahn is wanting his Coordinators to be up in the box.
So, I didn't see much discussion on this hire.
Thoughts?
Will our DBs suck less? Supposedly a pretty good recruiter, at least.
Saw
an article that said Clemson ranked 74th nationally in total defense. Not much improvement over Auburn's 80th ranking. However, Auburn's secondary was 100th in the nation in pass efficiency against, while Clemson was 26th. That's significant, I suppose.
Also:
At Mississippi State, where Harbison was defensive coordinator and safeties coach, the Bulldogs were seventh in the nation in pass defense and 20th in the nation in pass efficiency defense in 2007.
Which is good.
The article also says:
Harbison coached the Alabama secondary from 1998-2000 and wide receivers in 2003-06. In 21 years of coaching, Harbison has spent 12 with defensive backs and nine with wide receivers.
I'm not sure that's true.
According to teh wikis (which are never wrong), it looks like he was only a WR coach at Alabama for both of his stints, and has
only coached WRs there besides his first year coaching at Gardner–Webb.
1992-1993 Gardner-Webb (WR)
1994 UTEP (DB)
1995-1997 Clemson (DB)
1998-2000 Alabama (WR)
2001-2002 Louisiana State (DB)
2003-2006 Alabama (WR)
2007-2008 Mississippi State (DC)
2009-2012 Clemson (Co-DC/DB)
2013-present Auburn (Co-DC/DB)
