Pictures from nuke site Pershing late 80's

I was back at Ft. Benning this past weekend to hook up with some Old Army buddies and got these pictures. Pershing was a tactual nuclear missile (10mg if memory serves)  Thought some of you might enjoy them.

1: Actual nuke site-Taking pictures of the missiles on the site was a big NO-No. Tall building was a guard shack. The wall going around was to keep us from being shot at.


2.It was like being inside a prison.


3.A lot of the young German folks did not like us being there and would protest.


4. Every unit got tagged to deploy back to the states and do a live fire.

Awesome.  I can't imagine sitting in a bunker for days waiting for the orders to destroy the world.

These were outside pads. There were 3 sites in Germany, with 9 missiles per site always at the ready. we'd get a shoot mission and ready the misslies. It was an act of War to raise the misslie to the shoot position. There were 3 locks that had to be removed before the missile would raise up. I think our saying was "We give peace a chance"

Did you ever get to see one of them UFO's that they talk about visiting the launch sites on the History Channel? It really happened. If it's on the History Channel or in a book, what further proof does one need?

We will pull site duty- We would be up there for 3 months at a time- 4 days up-one day back at barracks-4 days back up and so on. One the one day you went down and got wif yo local wimen and kept the plumbling clean.

They would only protest on the weekend and only in the spring and fall-Guess they did like to protest in the heat or cold?????? I lived there 5 years so I ate plenty of local chow and did my best to deplete the beer reserves.

This might explain the UFOs. We would bring beer coasters from when we were downtown and soak them in alcohol and take them with us when we went up in the towers-Now to say it got boring sometime would be an understatement.  So we would light them (just during the winter) and flick them out the tower window and they would flame on till they hit the snow. Hey we did what we could to stay entertained.
