You have a valid point, however, Smart has built a hell of a defense and we all know it takes a GREAT defense to win in the SEC. CGM's spread, while it would be nice to have, is ineffective against SEC teams due to the fact that defenses are starting to man up against that threat. Sure, aTm used it effectively against SPUAT, but without a mobile QB (Johnny Football) aTm loses that game. We saw it in 2010 with Cam. I personally believe the best defensive minds will win out in the future of the SEC. Those individuals who can adapt and overcome the spread attack will be the winners. JMO.

Chizik had great defenses too. Unfortunately he did not hire himself to coach the defense!
