This is how I was feeling. Some good threads from when Tuberville was fired. Most seemed to be happy about firing Tuberville but hesitant about what we would get to replace him. Within two days, numerous rumors and insiders were talking about Muschamp, Gill, and even Mike Leach being the new coach.
Then it all exploded with the rampant speculation that Jacobs screwed over hiring Will Muschamp.
Then it all melted when Gene Chizik was hired.

Your coach beats us 6 years in a row. He loses 1 game to us and his ass is hung up high. Say what you want about it wasn't the Alabama game but just know this. If Auburn beats bama they extend the streak to 7, they beat their instate rival AND they become bowl eligible. There is NO WAY that the Alabama loss didn't cost Tuberville his job, the very school that he has beaten for 6 straight years. Unbelievable! Oh yeah.... and hysterical.
Shut the fuck up.
Why do you think you are the measuring stick for Auburn football? It has NOTHING to do with Bama football. You fuckers think that we had 6 years of euphoria because we beat your sorry ass team. You get ONE fucking year of relevance and somehow that makes you an important figure of the last ten years of college football.
One loss to you cousin grinders doesn't change Auburn football. 7 losses in one year does. Unable to recruit the way we SHOULD be recruiting causes changes. Losing to Vanderbilt causes changes. Starting 1-2 in a year that you should be a top 15 team causes changes. Losing three straight to Georgia causes changes.
Losing once to you fuckholes causes us to get ornery.
WOW.
WOW.
You know, now that it's finally happened, I'm a little sad. Don't get me wrong, I'm ready for a change - change we can believe in! But, Tuberville really was a good guy.
OOHHHHH WELLL.
WAR DAMN COACHING SEARCH!

Petrino has a non-competition clause. He's not even a possible candidate. It's in his contract that he can't go anywhere in the SEC West.
Money does lots of things to change contracts.
In order to get out of that "no compete" clause in his contract, it will cost 11.4 million dollars. We just threw a ton of dough at Tubs to leave. I really don't think Petrino is coming.
Now, maybe there's a big wig in town that wants to take over the role of Bobby Lowder.
Remind me again how much we're paying Chizik and crew to leave?
What is so fucking hard to understand about this situation?
It's easy. Auburn got fucking tired of saying "despite" after every god damn thing that happened on the football field. We beat the 2006 Florida Gators DESPITE not having an offense worth a shit. We had successful seasons and upset top teams DESPITE not having stellar recruiting classes. We finished the 2007 season with 9 wins DESPITE starting 1-2 and losing against a Big East team and bottom feeder Miss St.
We were always salvaging our season. The media and quite frankly, everyone else in college football, wants the same ole teams with tradition to be the ones on top. Auburn is supposed to be just Auburn. We're supposed to accept our status as little brother. We're supposed to be thrilled to beat Alabama, and now that Bama has Saban, we should want to do everything in our power to stay competitive with them. We should be happy that we're the best second tier team in the SEC. We should be happy with a few big upsets each year.
Auburn is doing the right thing by getting rid of Tuberville. We want championships. It's official; we've adopted a mentality that is a Bammerism. We want more than a few good wins and a decent bowl game. There's nothing wrong with that. We aren't going to expect a championship every year or even every other year, but we want to feel like our program is working towards that goal. Tubs was running a machine that was losing its oil. Tubs had set the plane on autopilot. That's not good enough for us. If you want to criticize that, fuck off. Our gamble is the only way to get us into the top tier of college football.

I know everyone has their arguments and reservations, but a question about Leach...
What makes you think we couldn't put together a great defense if he is hired based on his offense? Don't any of you figure that Auburn could pull a little better defensive talent than Texas Tech?
Just curious....
Yes, but it will still be a drop off. This is Auburn football. For some reason, it seems like a lot of people (people with power) want to change our image. We aren't a spread team. We aren't a pass-happy team. We can win with a strong running game and a stout defense. It's not like that style of play has disappeared.
Mike Leach might be able to do a fine job, but he will bring about Obama-like change. It'll take a few years to get everything order. We'll HAVE to give him at least three years to bring in his own players. I really feel like we are in position to keep this train rolling with good coaching. Even though some disagree, we DO have talent on this team.
The guy also has a few NCs after working with Tom Osbourne. I say we go after this guy. He's no more of a risk than any of the other potential candidates. He would also bring a lot of positive publicity for Auburn considering the nation is very focused on civil rights issues. Not to mention, he's young, and if he succeeds, he could be a great coach for Auburn for a long long time.
Unlike the 2008 presidential election, I feel like I've finally found a candidate I'd vote for. Bring on Turner Gill.
Jimbo Fisher no longer a candidate. He's pulling out before he comes.
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_college_fsu/2008/12/fisher-to-take.html
Edit - Earlier today, the FSU president issued a statement that pretty much warned Fisher not to even talk to us, or he'd be breaching his contract.

Chizik leaps to the top of the list in Auburn's search for a head coach
If this isn't a smokescreen, I might purposefully drink myself into a coma. Hopefully I'll wake up three years down the road when AU is completing their next coaching search.

maybe they are going to bring him in as a DC. there has been so much shit circulating, does anybody really know fact from fiction at this point? do you guys really really really feel Chizik will be it? something has to give, because they can't seriously see Chizik as an upgrade or being close to the same. it would be like us firing Saban to bring Shula back. but then again, before Saban was hired, i wouldn't have put something like that past our AD. they could fuck up a soup sandwich given the opportunity.
Yeah there are multiple rumors out there -
The three that seem reasonable concerning Chizik:
1. Gene Chizik sucks at ISU and wants out. He'll be our new defensive coordinator.
2. Gene Chizik sucks at ISU and wants out. Auburn has run out of options for HC. He'll be our new head coach.
3. Smokescreen.
Took 13 days to make the hire....
War Damn Eagle / Official I've Given Up On Auburn Thread - Chizik is the new coach.

Anyone interested in having an NFL get together next year? I'm done. With the BCS shit, the Bama shit, the Auburn shit, I'm done.
Good thing I've got my Saints.
My letter to Jay Gogue.

If he's the defensive coordinator, I commend you for an excellent hire, and I await the announce of the head coach. There's your case.
Gene Chizik is not "unproven." He has PROVEN that he cannot run a successful football program. At Auburn, we don't desire excuses hence why there was an outcry for Tuberville's position to be terminated. Why his team was 0-8 in the Big 12 North has no merit and should not be taken into consideration. The fact is that he couldn't cut it. As a high school educator, I promote the philosophy held by innovators such as Ralph Waldo Emerson that one can't expect to succeed by waiting on the perfect situation. Those who are successful fight through adversity. My students who accept that notion end the school year with grades to post on the refridgerator. Those who don't succeed often have outside reasons such as "my 9th grade English teacher didn't go over that kind of stuff" or "You gave me too much homework, which put me in a difficult situation to succeed" and etc.
Gene Chizik had the opportunity to prove himself as a head coach of a big time football program. He failed. He did not fight through adversity. Even IF he was dealt a 2-7 (worst hand in Texas Hold Em Poker), he could have salvaged something. Winning ZERO games is not what anybody wants.
If Tuberville indeed did not want to be the coach here anymore, it was YOUR responsibility to change his mind. If Tuberville indeed was fired, then it was YOUR responsibility to have someone BETTER to replace him. You've chosen a coach who has failed at an FBS school.
Sincerely,
An Auburn Alum, A former Tiger Host, A current teacher, A current and always supporter of Auburn football.
Iowa St was 0-8 in conference play WITHOUT PLAYING TEX, TEX TECH, OR OKLAHOMA.
A real jem here...
Too harsh. It's not his problem. I'm not going to blame Gene Chizik one bit for this debacle. He could go 3-9, and I still won't have ill feelings towards Chizik. The guy was handed a winning lottery ticket.
The real culprit is Jacobs. I don't give a shit if he's a puppet of Bobby Lowder. It's HIS job to make these hires and work out the problems. Because of Jacobs, it won't matter how good of a coach Chizik is. He won't have time to be successful because the Auburn fanbase has pitchforks and torches in their hands. Jacobs had the opportunity to make the right hire. I would have taken a poor season next year with a guy like Turner Gill. I would have been patient to see how Muschamp develops as a head coach. I would have waited for Paul Johnson to bring in the right recruits to run his system. That's not going to happen with Chizik. He has to win now, and it's not going to happen.
I'll gladly eat crow.
However, I'll NEVER give Jay Jacobs any credit. This will always be considered a dumbass hire even if Chizik wins 100 games in a row at Auburn. There was no reason to hire Chizik.
If I take a shit in my front yard and it makes the grass grow greener, I still took a shit in my front yard.
