Meh, you have some kids who don't want to work no matter what the coach says, you have some kids who will put in the work without anybody browbeating them, and you have some kids who will do what the coaches ask and only what the coaches ask. It might take some time but I think most kids will come around. After all, by most reports the guys we have were cream of the crop in high school. You don't get that way by being a complete slovenly asshole.
Yeah, some players are just better than everyone around them in HS, even some in college. And many talented athletes fail in college because they never had to work at the game before. In college, you have to have a system in place where guys fear losing their ride. Where there are consequences. Rules, and consequences for violating them. You can't depend on the "just good kids" to run the program. It sounds to me like Chiz has that "if you ignore it it will go away" personality trait. It doesn't. If there's not a strong leader AT THE TOP, rules, standards, and fear of consequences, the lowest common denominator will eventually be the majority culture.
