http://www.breitbart.com/Big-Government/2012/11/21/Two-Young-Women-Mock-Tomb-Of-The-Unknowns-At-Arlington

Two young disrespectful and stupid women have been placed on unpaid leave from their jobs after one took a picture of the other at The Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery pretending to yell and raising her middle finger.  Lindsey Stone posed for a picture next to the sign that reads “silence and respect.” Her co-worker, Jamie Schuh, took the picture and they put it on Facebook.
The photo went viral and thousands of people were furious, Some people even left angry comments on the Facebook page of their employer, Living Independently Forever, Inc.,(LIFE) a non-profit organization in Hyannis that helps adults with disabilities on Cape Cod.

One veteran who served in the Air force for 20 years with two tours in Vietnam, said, “I can understand why veterans would be all upset over this. It’s disrespectful, she’s telling us to go “F” ourselves and I don’t think that’s real bright and good for anybody.”

Stone’s parents were properly embarrassed by their daughter’s imbecility; her father said, “She had no intention of upsetting or offending anyone. It was poor judgment and she regrets every part of it. I don’t think she was reacting to the site (Arlington Cemetery), she was reacting to the sign. I’m appalled myself.”  Her mother added, “She is very, very sorry for what she did, and she never meant it to be disrespectful to anybody.”

But Sarah Wunsch, a staff attorney with the ACLU of Massachusetts thought the punishment didn’t fit the crime:

Other people have the right to say, ‘I think she’s a jerk or she’s disrespectful.’ I suppose they have the right to call for her to be fired. But it doesn’t mean the employer should give into that. Offensiveness shouldn’t be the standard for what gets to be able to be said, because what’s offensive to you may not be offensive to me and vice versa.

The ACLU might have had a different reaction if this had been a racist or sexist remark. Veterans? Come on.

I have been watching this drama unfold.  The LIFE website still hasn't issued an apology from the girls and there actions.  I know one message board is going after them with a fury and their personal info has been posted a lot of places. Pretty sure it was posted on 4chan as well.  The internet is going to ruin their lives with some internet justice.  They shall get what they deserve.

Just remember folks, you do have the freedom of speech, but also remember there are consequences to be paid for said speech.

THIS is exactly the problem with the country that I've been griping about since election day.  And, yes, she probably did vote for The ONE; no doubt in my mind.

Had they done that where Martin Luther King was buried.  Racists.     ACLU would not touch it

Had they done that where Cesar Chaves was buried.            Racists.           ACLU would not touch it.

But since it someone who sacrificed everything for freedom yea the ACLU will defend girls.

I am a firm believer in to have freedom you must have freedoms. And they have a right to do what they did. And the people who nuke them and hopefully ruin them have the same right. The parents are no better.

Not as outraged as some over this.  I'm more pissed that the ACLU even comments on it...or anything else for that matter.  I'd understand more if the girls were truly giving an F-U to those that served and made the ultimate sacrifice.  But, the pic didn't come off that way to me.  Just looked like they thought they were being funny in reacting to the sign.  Unfortunately, being young, I'm quite sure they had no grasp of the implications of doing it where they did.  I have a daughter that age.  Trust me...they have NO clue.  They got suspended from work.  Their parents publically called them dumbasses and their faces and names are splashed across the country.  I'd say they probably "get it" now.

Meh, if they were 18 to 22 then maybe, but when you are in your 30's you should know better and know that posting said pics on the internet could lead to bad things.

I never saw an age for them.  Getting ripped if an unflattering pic winds up on the intertubes is a given, no matter what the circumstance.  I've just still not seen anything that showed their intent to be disrespectful to those that serve(d) as opposed to trying to be funny mocking the wording on a sign.  Wrong place.  Real shitty judgment.  But that's about it.

I'm with the guy who cares. Stupidity is not a crime. Sometimes decent people do stupid stuff.  And the innerwebs makes sure the world can find out about it.  People jumped to conclusions about their intent in taking the picture.  I'm sure they haven't made a statement because no matter what they said now, no one would believe them.

The ACLU can still suck a pickle.
