57-49 loss to a team with an 8-11 record.  Denson and Price are back.  No excuses.

What the hell is wrong with Auburn basketball?  Is it just jinxed?  Destined to be the annual laughing stock of a piss poor league?  This team is 8-12 now and 2-5 in the SEC after starting 2-0.  Basketball is a game where you can turn a team around with one good recruiting class.  A couple of stud players on the floor and some decent coaching and you can be competitive in any league.  I turned it on last night with Auburn down 32-31.  I watched 3 missed shots by Auburn, including a gimme layup by Denson. They showed a graphic that it was now 9 shots in a row missed by Auburn.  I turned it off.

49 points.  Another loss.

I watched most of the game...and it was fucking pathetic. The bad thing, is UGA is TERRIBLE! Just awful. Auburn shot close to 25% from the floor. You just can't win doing that...

I just don't get it.  I like Barbee.  I like what he's done to promote the program.  He has had his share of attrition but on paper, he seems to be recruting well. He's one of the few coaches we've had where it looks like he actually has a plan....a system in place both offensively and defensively. I just don't understand why this program can't turn the corner.

Sorry, but at this level, there is no fucking excuse for hitting .500 from the free throw line.  None at all.  Easiest thing to practice.

I think my sons 4/5 year old team could shoot better from the line.  At least he wants to go out every day and practice it.

I liked Gene Chizik too.

Lebo put us in a bad place, but honestly this is Barbee's team now, that excuse doesn't cut it anymore.

This strikes at the very heart of the demise of basketball in general.  (Strikes at the very heart.  Damn, that was good)

To get good at shooting free throws, you actually have to stop and concentrate on mechanics.  On doing something the right way...the same way every time.  That's not what kids want to do.  They want to shoot jumpers....launch 3's and find creative ways to slam.  We have one basketball goal in one driveway in our neighborhood.  I've tried everything I know at my house but my lot slopes so badly that there's no possible way to put one up.  This is my get-off-my-lawn moment, but growing up...if there was a kid in the house, there was a goal in the driveway.  That's what we did.  We played until our parents made us come in or it was too dark to see.  We'd play 2 on 2 and HORSE and yes, have free throw contests.  We'd shoot 100 and see who made the most.

Yeah, the game today is 10X more athletic and in many respects, more fun to watch.  But fundamentally, the game today sux.  I posted a while back about going to a local HS tourney about a month ago. First game....2 high flying athletic teams who launched the first 3 they saw or flew to the rack whether there was an opening or not.  Entertaining.  Second game...one team was badly overmatched athletically.  The other team full court pressed from the opening tip.  Team 1 broke the press nearly every time without ever taking a dribble.  Spacing, movement...fundamentals.  Absolutely beautiful.

Anywho...bottom line is we see college studs shooting 50% from the free throw line because neither they nor their coaches give a shit about working on the little things.

The spot behind the house was a concrete slap at my house with a basketball goal that everybody on the street came over to play. I guess different times, but during the summer we would stay out there almost all night. Parents knew where we were and could see the lights on and knew we were playing something. Good times that I miss and feel sorry for kids today.

Nail...meet hammer.  No need to go into it all.  Suffice it to say that kids have 100 times more entertainment choices than we had.  And  8 out of 11 or 99% of those are indoors.  I'm as guilty as anyone because I have a 12 year old who can kick everyone's ass in X-Station360BoxAtariGuitarWiiHero.  Couldn't hit 2 out of 10 free throws.  Doesn't want to hit anymore than that.  Doesn't interest him.  No one gets killed and no monsters, ninjas or cool graphics while pulling up for a 15 foot jumper.

Afternoon ramble and speaking for the old farts club I really hate this new world sometimes; basketball used to be such a great game, youth are really missing out on some fundamentals of three dimensional thinking and basic mechanics in learning it; still is a great game, I suppose, but this season I'm seeing some awful playing generally, terrible even; and nothing, I mean nothing, makes me go more ballistic than missed free throws.  There's no excuse short of anxiety and lack of confidence and that can be overcome with...PRACTICE!  Made my blood pressure shoot up again.  Dammit.

I’m really fixing to “Get off my lawn” on ya. I really think (JMO-I have no kids) that the upcoming Gen Zer’s or whatever they are called are gonna be the first generation in a long time to be unhealthier than their parents. As our parents were growing up smoking was the big popular thing to do and as we got smarter medically we learned that it was very bad and would kill you (my mom smoked all her life and died young) as our generation learned not do it, we also evolved that we need to keep moving and exercising, eating healthy, and staying fit for a longer and better life.

You know you always hear people talk about being young again and back in school, if I could go back to my time, sure, but not in today’s current time world. My biggest fear was getting my ass kicked, not getting shot.

Now quit playing grab ass and get back to work. (as my dad would say)
