Joker Phillips Fired

UK's athletic department made the announcement just a little while ago.  I think we all saw that coming.

We all knew this would probably be the outcome, but there was still that doubt as to if it would or wouldn’t happen.

Today, it happened.

After three seasons and 22 years with the Kentucky football program, Joker Phillips has been fired.

In an open letter to the Kentucky faithful, Mitch Barnhart said,

“After much conversation, evaluation and prayer, I have determined that it is in the best interest of our athletics program to make a change in our football coaching staff at the conclusion of the season,” Barnhart said in the letter. “I do so with a heavy heart for a man who has served his alma mater for almost 22 years as a player and a coach.”

As I said last night, I love Joker Phillips the man and what he has meant not only to this program but his love for the program.

But after yesterday’s embarrassing loss, a change needed to be made.

Phillips will continue out the year as Kentucky begins its search for a coach immediately.

So, who’s the next coach?

Barnhart should go for Butch Davis. Why not? he's 61 can build a program and groom his own successor. Can probably get him for a steal too.
