Failure to Adjust
« on: September 27, 2012, 12:05:51 PM »
In Auburn's two SEC games, OMAC has been tackled for a loss 11 times out of 19 total carries.

I don't think OMAC is a bad running back.  However, I do think we are trying to hit the corner too much.  It's asinine that four games into the season, we would attempt the jet sweep more than twice.

Then why attempt it at all?

We are keeping it simple. This "Pro Style" offense is so complicated. It takes a lot of patience to learn it I'm told. We are lucky they run the 6 plays they run.

I was trying to be nice.

I could see trying the jet sweep as a misdirection after establishing the run and/or pass.  But to use it as our primary run play when it's getting stuffed against reputable defenses is insanity.

Very true.

The Jet Sweep is a good play.  We usually run it as a read play with power O blocking.  If it's a give (to OMac) read, we really only need to get a couple of people on the edge blocked to have a decent (5-8yard) gain.  One of 2 things is probably happening.  Either the skill guys on the edge aren't blocking/sustaining their blocks long enough, or Frazier is making bad reads.    Also to consider is that whatever defenses are doing to take it away, IF that's the case and it's not just that we're not blocking it or we're reading it wrong, is probably something that, IF we had a QB that could pass, we could make them pay for, but we can't so they don't have to "play the jet honestly" because we can't do other things.

Say it ain't so.

IF that were the case, then the DE would be hitting OMac in the mouth, and I don't think that's what's happening is it?  I honestly don't recall.   I'd have to go back and look at the replay, but I think it's being run down by OLBs, or Safeties rolling down, which is either a blocking issue (not the OL, but TE/WRs), or the defense being able to over compensate to stop it because of our inability to make them pay for doing so.

Yeah, those stats kinda suck. Think teams have figured out this offense is a bit one dimensional? Or half-dimensional even?

In the two SEC games, Auburn has rolled up 91 and 86 net yards rushing and 125 and 97 yards passing. That's an average of 88.5 on the ground and 111 in the air average.

QB play does all that? Nah, there's more wrong that just Frazier.

It's mostly Frazier, though.  It doesn't excuse some of the consistently bad play calls, but most bad play calls are probably happening becuse of Frazier.

Calm down, people.  The 3 teams we lost to have a combined record of 11-1.  All is well.  We're knocking on the door.  We're turning the corner.  We're...I...have no clue what that has to do with anything.
