Prowler, I admire your optimism.

I can put on my Auburn glasses, and say, yes, I think in the past two weeks, I've seen signs of improvement on the Offensive Line.  I like our running game when it runs north/south, which I saw more of against ULM.

But I'm totally baffled by the lack of fundamentals on the defensive side of things.

You'll never be able to convince me that the lack of fundamentals on defense is anything other than coaching.  This time last year, I would have sworn up and down that it was Ted Roof.  This year?  Not so much.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

We changed every God Damn thing from last year...why the fuck am I the only one to see that. The transition takes time (longer than I expected).

The rational folks can see it's more than about growing pains from transition.  I posted numerous examples of Auburn teams that made seamless transitions in coordinators.  There are numerous examples around CFB too.  Florida, Alabama both changed OCs.  Bammer hasn't missed a beat, and Florida is improved with improved QB play.  Meanwhile, Ark. keeps the same system in place, and they can't get out of their own way.

If you people haven't noticed the steady, marked improvement in our long snapper...then I can't help you.

Off the ledge for a second.  Yes, our program sucks right now and yes, Saturday will be one, long 3 hour anal raping session.  But despite the numerous, "I hate Frayzha/Holland" texts I sent this weekend, I saw some decent things.  Kalil still blows hard.  But he also made more decent throws than he did in 2 games combined.  Accurate on the short, underneath stuff.  A nice TD pass to Coates that was called back.  The INT he threw was also a perfect, tight spiral.  Hit the guy between the numbers.  He still can't see the field and locks in on one receiver but overall, 100% better than MSU.

Believe it or not, there was one point in the game where I really thought AU was going to take total control and the game would wind up like we all hoped it would.  Up 28-14. The defense was making consistent stops and getting off the field and the O-line owned the line of scrimmage, ripping off nice runs.  Going in for a sure TD to go up 35-14....then Blakely fumbles on the 3.  From there, it was a cluster of fucks allowing ULM to hang around and come back...just like at Arky the week before.

Despite Jake Holland....I can't even find the words....the defense was playing well most of the afternoon.  Well, for our defense.  I reeeeeeaaally question the defensive play calling, though.  And I think that had as much to do with ULM's come back as anything.  When we stacked the line, manned up on the corners and brought pressure...good things happened.  But time and time and time again, on 3rd and 3 or 3rd and whatever, we rushed 4 and dropped everyone back.  Easy pitch and catch.  Mind boggling.

Why, why, why does Van Gorder continue to play Jake Holland?

Chizik has earned the right to have a year where he figures things out, and that's this year with the new coordinating and coaching staff additions. I think it will take a year and a recruiting class for Coach Van Gorder to unfuck things. I also like that Gene sees what the deficiencies are and goes out and recruits for it. Disruptive playmaking DEs and DTs, monster playmaking LBers, press man CBs, playmaking Safeties.

Based on that, you expect to see younger LBs this weekend?  Why so long to get them in the lineup?

Where are these so called recruits?  Why isn't Jeff Whitaker disrupting anything?  Why is it that Jake Holland is the suckage he is?  Who are these press man CBs and play making safeties, because they're not getting playing time?

They're coming in the upcoming class (Coach VanGorder's Defensive class). The question about Whitaker and the other DTs, that's probably coming from Coach Pelton, he's had two years to coach them how to get penetration, use proper technique & use their hands. If there's any change to the coaching staff, he'd be the only one that should pack, IMO. And no, I'm not ”coming around”, I've felt all along that he could be the weak link...I gave him last season and saw no improvement across the front, aside from Lemonier and this year, it's still the same (minus Lemonier and Ford).

^See, that's how you do it, give the guy a little more time than 3 GAMES to see improvement. Now with VanGorder's attacking style of Defense, as opposed to Roof's read and react, we should've seen A LOT more penetration from the DTs.

That's two fold too, more attention given to the DTs by the OL, means the LBers and DEs will have a little more room to make the plays...better interior play usually means better exterior and LBer play (same for the OL, better OL play usually means better running game and more time for the passing game)

Also, I'm not so sure Trooper has done such a great job with the WRs

He has the right to to have a year and not win the national championship, or SEC championship, or an SEC west title, or even go 6-6. He does not have the right to get blown the fuck out by LSU, Alabama, UGA! Miss. St., and aTm. He does not earn the right to go into OT with LaMo or get beat by Vandy and UK. Period dude. That is the difference between your view and mine. You want to give him a year no matter what. Fuck that.

All I've heard the past few years (mostly from Prowler) is how the services are overrating Alabama commits, this Auburn commit is actually better than this Alabama commit even though the Auburn guy only has like 3 offers, etc etc. It brings me back to your comparison of Jake Holland and CJ Mosley coming out of high school.

1. Not to be a prick, but Holland wasn't better coming out of high school. He just wasn't. Not even close.

2. If he was better than Mosley, then what the fuck happened when he got to AU? How did Mosley go from worse than Jake Holland to All-SEC and All-American his freshman year? And Holland is still shitty. So that answers the question right there, really.

Prowler, I guess what I'm trying to say is, everybody has bought into your schtick for years. Everybody has been buying into what you say about how AU is recruiting straight up studs from top to bottom of the roster since Chizik came on board. It was always "Well, Chizik just needs to get his recruits in" and everything will be fine. Chizik's recruits are in, and the results have been poor. Some of the same problems that were issues before the new coordinators are STILL a problem now. That goes beyond learning new systems. That's in the territory of poor coaching philosophy. Mainly on defense. You say that VanGorder's defense is a foreign language compared to Roof's. I'm not so sure I buy that, because watching the ULM game, I don't know what was so different from a roof defense. At all, in any aspect.
