The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
« on: September 01, 2012, 11:25:18 PM »
The Good

- Our defense looked much more aggressive than last year.

- Cody Parkey is an excellent field goal specialist.

- Tre Mason is a beast and will be a huge asset for our offense.

- Lots of penetration from the defensive line.

- Considering we're starting two freshman on the left and right and had a backup center in the game, our offensive line was aggressive and impressive for most of the game.

- Jay Prosch is a juggernaut and is the biggest recruit of this past offseason.

The Bad

- The defense wore out, and it looked like Van Gorder got outcoached in the 2nd half.

- Too many missed tackles when we had the chance to get their quarterback down.

- Bad coaching call by Loeffler to take Mason out of the game for so long after the fumble.

- Bad call by the staff to not put the game on Mason's shoulders.

The Ugly

- The offense lacked true identity.  Frazier was not going to win the game for us, and Mason was gashing them most of the night.

- Frazier has to get the ball out of his hands much quicker than what was displayed tonight.  Unfortunately, this is usually a problem that persists for young quarterbacks.

- Frazier overthrew way too many receivers.

- Our defense gave up 229 yards to one running back.  Ellington is really good, but there are many good running backs in the SEC.  They'll kill us if we can't stuff the run.

- The defense let too many receivers get wide open.  We're lucky they had so many drops and we're damn lucky Watkins didn't play.

- Our defensive ends lose containment and are wildly out of control when rushing the passer.

- We lost to that fuckhead bammer boy, Dabo Swinney.

- Every SEC team is 1-0 except for Vandy and Auburn.

Agree or will not argue with more than 50% of that,  disagree with a couple of items, and "meh" with a few more.

Not anywhere near sober but these are my current thoughts...

Trovon Fucking Reed- That was seventh grade bullshit in the endzone. He had no fucking idea where his feet were. WTF? You've been practicing that, drilling that your whole life...that would have been 6 we desperately needed.

That bullshit reverse with Quan made me wonder who the fuck else is smoking spice. He is too small for that kind of play...I blame the coach on that. 100% ridic.

Darren Bates has the right intensity but he is too fucking small. It's bullshit that our best safety is playing linebacker, and he will get hurt, not just dinged up like he got tonight. I still blame Gene for that...I can't understand it. Jake Holland played better tonight...in the way that he made more tackles but he just isn't mean enough. You were afraid of Josh Bynes. WHo the fuck is afraid of Jake Holland? Nobody. I thought the O line did well considering...but our smart new center isn't mean enough either.

Our D. Who the fuck is number 24? R Smith? R white? I can't remember. If i saw him get okeydoked one time I saw it happen 15. Dear baby Jesus. I had better not see his goddamn name, whatever it is, on the starting lineup next week. Our tackling got a little better towards the end but it was too late by then....and we were getting blown off the fucking line cause they were tired as shit.

Cody parkey was awesome. Nothing but awesome.
I was also glad to see that we didn't have that many penalties. Especially for a first game. We also had more sacks then we have seen in a while.

Kiehl, is only a sophomore. And God help us, he is our guy. He has to get better. Has to.

I had completely forgotten about that.  And Reed tried to throw his hands up like the ref made a bad call.

Agreed on Bates, but I'm not going to hate on the guy too much.  He led the team with 14 tackles and had a sack and an interception.

Holland looked meaner, but he's too weak to be our middle linebacker.

I feel good about the future of our defense.  The dline and secondary both looked better than last year, and once we get a few bigger linebackers in the game, we'll be just fine.

Couple of remarks...

Disappointed that we lost, but not the way we lost. That is a good football team, Not Utah State who we almost lost to last year.

Biggest improvements come between the first and second game of the season.

I was impressed with Loeffler's play calling, maybe it was because I didn't know what to expect but he put us in position to win the game.

I know I might be the minority (especially when Snaggle comes here) but I was impressed with Kiehl. Yes he had a lot of over thrown balls but that is nerves.  That can be corrected. It was his first start in a major game and I thought he looked poised and made strong throws. He will be very good for us. Mark that down.

Cam Newton will never come back to Auburn he is a thug.

Was disappointed in the defense. They held them on points but gave up way to many yards.

Poor tackling, not wrapping guys up.

We are very, very weak at linebacker.  Thought the front guys did well at getting pressure but, not enough containment to wrap up Boyd. Boyd is a very good QB.

Bottom line, while disappointed in the loss we certainly looked much better in a opener vs last year and it was a much stronger team. I think this team will continue to get better and will still surprise some folks.

It could be worse we could be Gator fans. they looked like doo-doo served on a turd biscuit.

Not bad for a drunk, new kid.  A few things that I thought of.

I blamed Quan on that reverse more than the coaches.  Why in the blue hell did he cut it back inside?  Especially when Porsch just plowed someone to allow him to keep trucking to the outside.  He keeps going to the outside and we might have a good gain out of that.

At the time I gave the blame to both Reed and Fraizer.  Reed should have came down in bounds and Fraizer needs to learn to throw.  Think what might have been if our receivers were 9 ft tall?  But saying that and thinking back on it, you would be correct, Reed looked like a HS kid on that play.

Most of my points have been previously covered...but I'll say 'em anyway.

Offense:
- Kiehl overthrew nearly everyone.  That is a mechanical problem and should be very fixable.
- We know that Blake is solid...but where the fuck were the rest of the receivers?  Frazier's over-throws aside, someone should step up.
- The O-line performed very well for all of its green starters.
- Mason and Prosch make a deadly I-formation

Defense:
- Our horrible LB corps got exposed: runs up the middle and the intermediate passing game showed that we lack any playmakers at these positions.
- Morris ran the HUNH to perfection and our D was gassed.  That isn't an indictment of our conditioning or skill.

Special Teams:
- Parkey...nuff said.

All in all, not a horrible first showing.  Disappointed with a loss, but at least we didn't stumble out of the gate to a cupcake.  We know that this team can compete and they have plenty to learn from in this game.  I predict that MSU will get hurt...badly...by our D-line.

Another point to consider: last year we gave up 5 TDs to Clemson, but only 2 this year.

KF looked good at times, and bad at times.  He had some on the money throws, and some bad ones.  He's got heart, and doesn't go all fetal position at the first sign of pressure, but he held the ball too long at times.  Overall, for a first start, vs a real team, I'll give him a passing grade.

The OL, for all it's youth, looked solid.  BIG surprise to me.  Bodes well for the future.

Yeah, Mason is good, and Procsh is a monster but we lack a true, TRUE between the tackles guy that can put the game on his shoulders and will us to a win.  Jovon was that guy.

Loeffler?  First game with these players...I am sure they had a plan, but no way to know what would really work, or what the true personality of this offense would be.  Looked to me like he began to get a feel for it by half time.  Clear to me, he believes the Left side of the OL is where they want/need to run when they HAVE to get 5 yards.  Good mix of run and Play Action, and good mix of calling play action on first down later in the game, but we didn't execute on most of them.

Yeah Clemson is good.  Probably worthy of their rankings.  That's top 15 y'all.  Mediocre.  Boyd is good.  Their WR, #6, he's good.  Our D?  We make them look much better.  The DL?  Sorry, I saw NOTHING from them, and that was vs a patchwork OL of Clemson's.  I expected much more out of that group.  Our DBs can't cover shit.  LBs get blocked, and stay blocked.  Tackling?  A-fucking-trocious!  The slight difference I see this season is when a WR catches a ball, we try to look for the ball but can't find it or we're 2 steps closer to make a tackle, and we bounce off the tackles with much more aggression.  End result?  Same as Roof ball.   Only 2 explanations.  Either the people I know that say we have no players on that side of the ball are right, or one off season is just not enough time to unfuck what Roof did.  We played better in last year's bowl game with Chiz running the D so I don't know, but the Defense still sux.

Clemson shot themselves in the foot repeatedly last night.  They should have beat us by 3 TDs.  We never stopped them.  We also ran clock on offense, or they'd have gotten 100 snaps on offense.  As it was, they got, IIRC, 87 compared to our 64.

I had plenty of time to sit a watch the game over again last night.  It's all been mentioned already, but my non-professional opinion saw a few things that I liked and a few that I didn't.   Not to rehash, but.....

OL:  Played good for having three first time starters.  Getting Disumkes back will be huge.  Makes me feel good about the future of this unit.  They gave good protection and there were times I thought it was their fault, but on second watch, it was Fraizer getting nervous feet and leaving the pocket that caused them to look like they broke down.  They are green but can get after it.

QB:  Fraizer panics, gets happy feet and has apparent accuracy issues.  All of those are correctable.  Correct those and he can manage this offense.  Can he put it on his shoulders and will them to win like Cam?  No, and he shouldn't have to in this O, that duty should be left to the OL and RB.

RB/FB:  Porsch is a beast.  Mason running behind him is going to be the real deal. We should do this as much as possible and wear other teams down.  Between Mason, Blakely and Grant with McSquirrel as a change of pace we should be able to accomplish this.

WR/TE:  I though Fulse did a good job blocking.  I noticed that our WR's block better this year.  Lutz is gonna Lutz and Blake is gonna Blake.  Other than that, they suck.  Reed?  Bray?  Someone else has to step up and soon.  I don't care who, but for the love of God, someone step up please!

DE/DT:  Ends got off their defenders pretty well, problem with that is they over pursued.  All Boyd had to do was step up, take off or hand it off to Ellington who was already gone.  We were chasing them from behind all night.   The tackles were pretty meh.  Wright looks like he is out of shape, Whitaker didn't do crap.  Blackson had a few good plays but other than that, nothing.

LB:  They are weak and suck, that is all.  They still can't tackle and constantly get their asses whipped.  No way a receiver should whip a LB. One good play all night and it was pure damn luck.

S/CB:  Still suck.  Still can't tackle.  Ugh!

Some of these things are fixable if our coaches can do it, some are just a lack of talent and won't get much better if any.

Clemson shot themselves in the foot repeatedly last night.  They should have beat us by 3 TDs.  We never stopped them.  We also ran clock on offense, or they'd have gotten 100 snaps on offense.  As it was, they got, IIRC, 87 compared to our 64.
You have that mixed up. Auburn should've beaten Clemson by 3 TDs or more, Saturday night. Even with the miscues on Offense, Auburn was still on top late in the fourth.
I'll say it right now.
