Biden out, Hillary in?
« on: August 15, 2012, 03:49:08 PM »
From a blog I read:

Quote
Paul Ryan's selection just moved Hillary Clinton from "possible" to "probable" as Biden's replacement on the 2012 Dem ticket. Look for Slow Joe to find a sudden yearing to become an elder statesman who has more time to spend with his family. I'll bet Hill & Bill are having champagne tonight. Even most of my Democratic friends will admit, if pressed, that it would be a good thing for the country to get Joe Biden out of the line of presidential succession....

I've been reading rumblings in the political forums and aggregate sites that I haunt about this sea-change to the "Hope and Change ticket" too but they always seem to be tempered with the perceived factor that The Pharaoh and the Clintons have no political fondness for one another.  Is it plausible, yes, in my opinion.  The likely time to make the change is at the Dem Convention in Charlotte next month.

I think I made a thread about this a few months ago.

I can't see Biden continuing on.  Name one thing he's brought to this administration that the Obama campaign can brag about.

There's nothing!

No one says, "Well, the healthcare bill was really pushed through thanks to those motivational, inspirational speeches from the vice president."

There's nothing, and Biden won't stand a chance in an actual debate.

However, does Hillary want to be vice-president under Obama?

Serious question: Can you do that, barring impeachment? And if so, has it been done before?

I agree.  Hillary would give him a big chance; this is one political chess-move that causes me some anxiety about this election.

Let's hope they keep Joe...

Did not know that. Both before my time (and yours).

A party can technically nominate and run a new presidential candidate as well as a VP in lieu of a currently sitting president of that party; in the process effectively removing a sitting president from office; I think this almost happened to Jimmy Carter if I recall...don't have time to look it up right now.

*Edit: I remembered right; this did almost happen to Jimmy Carter in the election 1980; Ted Kennedy almost got the nomination for the Dems that year which would have removed Carter as a choice and removed him as President.

This says it all:

Quote
Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee and a Fox News contributor, had said Biden's comments are the latest example of how he "really drags down that ticket."

But Obama, in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight," downplayed Palin's comments.

That's an interesting "What if" game.  What if the democrats replaced Carter with Kennedy before the 1980 election?  Could Kennedy's name help him beat the less experienced actor, Ronald Reagan?

And then which direction would the country have gone?

Yeah.  FDR did it.  Ford did it.

And Ford's was a serious double cross of Nelson Rockefeller.

Read about it...very interesting. A lot of the neocon movement was bred during this time.

More speculation:

http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/today-day_650058.html

Quote
Perhaps further fueling speculation that Barack Obama may replace Joe Biden on the Democratic presidential ticket with, say, Hillary Clinton, take a look at part of the president's schedule for today:
10:15AM        THE PRESIDENT and THE VICE PRESIDENT receive the Presidential Daily Briefing

                        Oval Office

                        Closed Press

10:45AM        THE PRESIDENT and THE VICE PRESIDENT meet with Secretary of State Clinton

                        Oval Office

                        Closed Press

12:30PM         THE PRESIDENT and THE VICE PRESIDENT meet for lunch

                        Private Dining Room

                        Closed Press
Will President Obama deliver the bad news to Biden at 10:15? And, in the 10:45 meeting, arrange the handoff to Hillary?

If so, there's a nice condolence lunch with Biden to make him fell better set for 12:30.

The more speculation I hear about this replacement of Joe Biden the less likely I think it's going to happen; I don't think that The Pharaoh wants anyone competent in that position.

You know...you are right. His ego is that big. Hillary may make him look foolish. After all, she was much more qualified to win the 2008 nomination than him. And he knows it.
