Surviving an Active Shooter Event
« on: July 30, 2012, 05:22:31 PM »
It's really interesting to see how the City Fathers of Houston are responding to educating the public on surviving an active shooter event.

Here's "RUN. HIDE. FIGHT.":

It's also interesting to see that no one in the video is armed with an actual gun (for protection and security) except the "shooter" and the Police who arrive well-after many have been shot.  To me, the response for "being prepared for the worst" when "sometimes bad people do bad things" is to carry a heater...

I saw a statistic (don’t remember where) that had this to point out:

Mass shootings where no one is armed and police arrest or shoot the shooter:  Ave deaths is around 11

Mass shootings where someone or people in the crowd are armed:  Avg deaths around 2

We had to take shooter training when I was working with the army.  I remember if they guy has a gun you are supposed to crouch as ricochets tend to hug hte floor, if he has a grenade you should lie flat to avoid shrapnel.  To me both sounded about as effective as duck and cover during nuclear attack.

You meet a man on the Oregon Trail. He tells you his name is Terry. You laugh and tell him: "That's a girl's name!" Terry shoots you. You have died of dissin' Terry.

We were taught to get as low as you can and return fire-Look for the muzzle flash and return fire-Which in principal sounds good except when your shitting and pissing on yourself because someone or someone’s are shooting at you makes it a moot point. From a military standpoint-Best defense is a good offense-Be the first shooter. ( I know doesn’t apply in the civilian world) but had someone been able to draw upon hearing the first rounds and was on the opposite side of the first shooting maybe things could have been different.

If someone is throwing grenades-well no matter how low you get it doesn’t matter. Grenades get you three ways. 1. The initial explosion. 2. The concussion from the blast and then the shrapnel.  On live fire exercises we would throw them into old monster truck tires-one blast would flip them 10’ feet in the air and about 20 feet in any one direction.

Houston doesn't have City Fathers.  We have a lesbian Democrat (redundant) Mayor who, granted, is totally butch, but is technically a woman.  She is awful.

True dat.  She is the first openly gay mayor of a major US city.

I don't give a good gorram who she sleeps with - altho her partner actually uses the title First Lady, which kind of strikes me as odd... - but I would despise her if she was a hetero with a First Man - she is as liberal as they come, and her continuation of the smoke and mirrors fiscal policies of her Democrat predecessor have fucked Houston on its now massively underfunded fire and police pension funds.  She deliberately hid his serious fuckeration on the funds because he was running for Governor, and her payoff was being his hand picked successor for Mayor (he was term limited) - but what is so bad is that she was formerly the City Controller, and ran on a platform of fiscal responsibility...

SO GLAD I do not live in the jurisdiction of the City of Houston.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

WORD.  Thank you, dear.

They talk about how NOLA will never be the same - HA.  Come hang out in some formerly nice parts of Houston some time.  We took in their trash and they didn't take it back.  Now the gangs have satellite offices in NOLA and commute from Houston - no shit.

We moved out of Harris County to the country for a reason, y'all.
