He was the main QB toward the end of mine, weskies and aut2000's reign at Auburn. Wasn't much for talent, but he had grit - he at least tried. Cool guy too, Auburn all the way. Jeff Klein (his backup) was more like Moseley.
Gross was from rightcheya in Dothan and I saw him play both foosballz and basketball several times. Never went to a Northview baseball game but obviously, he was pretty damn good. I was blown away when he was offered a football scholly because while he was a great athlete, there was nothing to suggest he could pass on the college level. If memory serves, he was offered late and I think it may have had as much to do with his father, Lee Gross..former center at AU...as anything else. However, and I'm just guessing here, there may not have been anything available baseball wise with the limits on scholarships, so they gave a good athlete a football scholly, knowing baseball was his sport but also adding some depth at QB.
Having said that, I also don't believe he ever got a real chance to develop and show what he could do. Don't know if Gross would have ever developed into a good QB..kind of doubt it...but that was a horrible time in AU foosball and I hope most on here aren't too young to really comprehend the beating he took against UGA that night. The line situation was so bad by that time in the season, they had moved a 3rd string guard to TE just to have another big body to try and stem the flow. It was ugly. Thanks Terry.
