Just as the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York have gained the support of major labor unions and gotten the attention of major media outlets, spinoff groups have begun organizing in Alabama as part of Occupy Together, an unofficial hub for communities that have picked up the movement.

Today and through the weekend, groups in Birmingham, Huntsville, Mobile, Tuscaloosa and Auburn are planning to gather to meet and hold their own protests, getting the word out through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and their own websites. Across the world, meetups have been scheduled in nearly 500 communities.

While all of the Alabama groups claim to "stand in solidarity" with the Occupy Wall Street protestors who first set up stakes in Manhattan nearly three weeks ago and began to attract organized labor support this week, most are acknowledging that the concerns of those involved are varied, but mostly focused on issues of economic inequality.

The faces of the "occupy movement" are mostly young and the messages sometimes idealistic, railing at the financial establishment but lacking in focus. In its early days, mainstream media hardly knew how to cover the events where demonstrators called for an end to corruption in the banking industry, among a host of other criticisms.

Even the movement on the ground on Wall Street shies away from naming leaders, instead relying on a general assembly to name priorities in the "Declaration of the Occupation of New York City."

Occupy Birmingham, with more than 2,300 "likes" on its Facebook page and a few members working the streets of 5 Points South to try to build support, will meet for the second time on the west side of Railroad Park at 7 tonight. Occupy Huntsville is gathering for a protest at 7 tonight in the old section of Big Spring Park.

The Occupy Tuscaloosa group will hold its first planning meeting and demonstration  on the University of Alabama Quad from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, just as the homecoming pep rally and bonfire get going at 7. Occupy Mobile will gather at the Government Plaza downtown on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Occupy Auburn is also looking into holding its first meeting this weekend.

They have influenced the courts to achieve the same rights as people, with none of the culpability or responsibility.
They have spent millions of dollars on legal teams that look for ways to get them out of contracts in regards to health insurance.
They have sold our privacy as a commodity.
They have used the military and police force to prevent freedom of the press. They have deliberately declined to recall faulty products endangering lives in pursuit of profit.
They determine economic policy, despite the catastrophic failures their policies have produced and continue to produce.
They have donated large sums of money to politicians supposed to be regulating them. They continue to block alternate forms of energy to keep us dependent on oil.
They continue to block generic forms of medicine that could save people’s lives in order to protect investments that have already turned a substantive profit.
They have purposely covered up oil spills, accidents, faulty bookkeeping, and inactive ingredients in pursuit of profit.
They purposefully keep people misinformed and fearful through their control of the media.
They have accepted private contracts to murder prisoners even when presented with serious doubts about their guilt.
They have perpetuated colonialism at home and abroad. They have participated in the torture and murder of innocent civilians overseas.
They continue to create weapons of mass destruction in order to receive government contracts. *

Red herring to attempt to pass the blame to someone else. The root cause of this remains people getting mortgages they couldn't afford and a subprime lending market perpetuated by The Community Reinvestment Act (Jimmy Carter), not a corporation.

A human right? Yes, you have the right to attend college. It also costs money. Being irresponsible in paying it back is NOT a right. Fucking dingbat.

This whole thing is a pile of disorganized horseshit...  More flower-child, hippy, dope-smoking, drum circle puke...  That so-called Declaration is a series of half-truths, misinformation and hyperbole.  These mental giants know nothing of free market capitalism, economics or reality.  The interviews have been hilarious, even the ones that are attempting to be sympathetic to these clowns.  These people can't speak.  Their points are collections of Obama and pro-union rhetoric.  None of them can speak intelligently about what they're attempting to protest.  And, many of them are following and perpetuating lies...

Here's the video of the wingnut fraud.  Half of what he's saying has been confirmed as lies.  FYI...  He graduated from Carleton College for about $42,942 a year [$171,768 for 4 years], and he currently studies law at George Washington University for a whopping $70,449 a year [$211,347 potentially for 3 years].  Does anyone really think his family's financial troubles are beyond their control?
