Try a Pinot Grigio. It's a little closer to a Chardonay but has a good bit of sweetness. Any Riesling will be sweet, along with a Zinfandel or Piesporter. (sp? on all)
Santa Margharita makes a really good Pinot Grigio for around $15-20. Mondavi also makes a good one. Any white zinfindel is going to appeal to your sweet requirement. Riesling is VERY sweet, IMO, but I prefer reds, so sweet is not my thing. I do drink pinot grigio in the summer in Houston because it is just too fucking hot for a heavy red.
I also cannot overstate the joy that is champagne. Americans have this thing about bubbly being for special occasions, but isn't making it to another weekend - hell, another Tuesday! - a special occasion? Living to see tomorrow? Getting through your work day without taking someone out in the parking garage because they are too stupid to live?
Champers meets your requirements because it is light and can be sweet, depending on what you buy. A Proseco is sweet, and comes in all "colors", including pink/rose - you would probably like that a lot. A Brut can be dry or extra dry - my favorite is Domaine St. Michele, and it runs about $10 a bottle, making it perfect for a "because it's Tuesday" champagne to keep to hand. I prefer their extra-dry, but there are others by that label. If I am REALLY splurging, I get Moet & Chandon White Star, but I do save those for legit special occasions. I also like Roderer.
