I just don't think he is going to be an NFL superstar.  There is no denying that he looked like a man among boys on the college fields.  He will be a good back, that will make some noise for the first half of his rookie season...then he will be just like the rest of the NFL backs, imnsho.  That is not a bad thing either.

I don't know if I even really agree with that. Was he as strong as fuck and could move a pile - yes.  He was a good college running back, no doubt.  Was he a great college running back, meh.  bama has had an awesome offensive line.

There are a lot of players that are no-Cam.  I am not really comparing the two.  I think he will be a serviceable back in the NFL and he has the tools to be a great back, the question is will he be?

Personally I  don't think he will be an Adrian Peterson type player.

and to be honest Snags (for me anyways) it actually doesn't have anything to do with him being a bama player.  I think Dont'a Hightower goin to the PAT's was an excellent pickup and will be a big force in Belichick's defense.

Agree. I just don't get the hype with Richurson. Sure, he is good on paper and has great measurables. They love talking about how he bench presses 8,000 lbs, but so what? Nothing on the field impressed me beyond what an average to solid RB in the SEC could do. I def thought Lattimore was a better back all around. Rent was on a very good ball club with a very good OL. He had a role of moving the chains and moving the pile/running between the tackles.

I think it's a wait and see.  I'm not sure he'll be any better than average.  It's a passing league for one thing.  He's going to a shit franchise.

Quote
Alabama's pro day had the usual whispers about jaw-dropping 40 times. All first-time workouts for a top-ranked prospect that have breathless predictions about their 40 times. Running back Trent Richardson had folks talking about the magic 4.3 threshold, even some whispers of a potential dip into the 4.2 range. Richardson turned in two unofficial 40 times of 4.58 seconds. Now what?

To put those times in context, Richardson was reportedly working out at just 70 percent after offseason minor knee surgery. Richardson will obviously workout again, for individual teams bringing him in for pre-draft visits.
http://www.turfshowtimes.com/2012/3/29/2910937/trent-richardson-pro-day-40-time

He didn't work out at the combine.  They alibi his pro day performance.  As is the case much of the time, his expected 40 time is that of way outside the box high for his position, and yet his real time is definitely not "get to the corner" speed for the NFL.

Trent: 5-9, 229, 4.55 speed, maybe 4.5 if healthy, who really knows if he was that far off or not vs a similar sized Ben Tate at 5-11, 220, 4.43 speed.  What did Ben do in his first full year on a Wildcard playoff team?  Just under 1000 yards in 15 games, and a 5.4 yard per carry avg?  Pretty good, but not pro bowl numbers, and he's on a decent team, while sharing the load with Arian Foster.   Actually, in looking at it, Rents "measureables" are much closer to Rudi Johnson at 5-10, 227, 4.57 speed, similar strength.  Decent NFL back, on a sucky to average team.  Rudi played 8 seasons, and only 3 of those did he play 16 games.  He only played in 9 games his first 2 seasons.

If Rent were on a team that relied heavily on Zone Blocking, and had a very good OL, he'd be ok.  Like others have said, he's going to get hit early and often, and be playing on a team that is playing from behind a lot.   They've won a total of 18 games the last 4 seasons.  His career, on that team, won't last long, and will hardly be one to remember.

Better College Running Back - :check:

How's he doing in the Pros?

I thought he was going to be the next big deal at RB, I don't think he has been healthy a full season yet.  Started to show some glimpses this season.  Has been in the pros for 4 years.

If it weren't for the new CBA capping rookie salaries, I'd think Rent would have fallen greatly.  Although, the hapless Browns may have paid him anything.   There's just no need to risk lots of money on a top 10 pick on a RB, when there's so many out there you can pick up in late rounds that can get the job done if you have the other pieces of the puzzle on offense.

Not to mention the Browns drafted Weeden.  Talk is they'll trade McCoy, and that surely leaves Weedon as the starter.  Rookie QB, that most say is a "system QB" that got his numbers in a league that plays little defense.

I don't exactly get the smashing of McCoy.  Granted I didn't watch many Browns games last year, but looking at his numbers he didn't perform that badly.

Considering the team around him, I'd have to agree.  But you know, it's always the QBs fault, even if it isn't.

I think something that gets overlooked, that I think adds to Richardson's value, is his pass protection ability. Especially when you have a shitty OL, and you have so many needs. It certainly gives your backfield a little flexibility. I'm not so sure why they didn't pick an OL in the 1st round, because I would imagine Weeden would have still been there later on. And they already had McCoy. But really, as far as the RB or OL argument goes for them, it's 6 of one half dozen of the other. Their problems aren't going to get fixed in one draft.

Trent also does well after contact, and has been durable during his career at Alabama. But the NFL is on a different level. I don't think he's guaranteed to be a pro bowler any more or less than any other rookie in the NFL. You just never really know who is going to pan out or not, regardless of how good or bad they were in college.

Because they have three picks in the next round.  They can pick up some good OL there.

They picked up an OLineman...tRent Richardson, rws stated that his pass protection is the tits.  I'm thinking RT, with a move to LT after a year or two.  Now they just need a RB worth a shit that doesn't have a bum knee.
