We have had the same sort of problems in the past with some of our smaller engines at the fire department, like on brush truck skid units, sump pumps, etc. The ethanol in the gas really will make your smaller hoses brittle and fuck up your carb. We would take the carbs apart ourselves to clean them, so it's not like anybody was really jerking us around. Finally we decided to wise up and turn the fuel flow off while the motor was running and let it burn off what was in the fuel line and let it shut itself down. That seemed to help us out quite a bit. Now since a station in town has started selling 100% gas and we use that, no problems whatsoever.

First of all, that's too much for a carb replacement, UNLESS it's a piece shit fucking Honda. Briggs run $30.. and even a bammer can install one. But Honda's piece of shit 100 fucking pieces and gaskets. Fuck Japan and they shit. Go to Wally World and get some ethanol fuel stabilizer, I like Lucas  Oil products myself (being that ethanol is water based, it has the same affect as humidity would inside your engines when they are in storage., big problem with ethanol everywhere, especially marine engines). At the beginning of the season get some PB blaster small engine tune-up and follow the instructions. When starting you may need to shoot some starter fluid in the intake air filter area for about 3 seconds. Be sure and prime the prime bulb prior to all of this.

Use this to negate the bad affects on small engines all season long.

100% pure gasoline is the ticket. The refinery I worked recently said it doesn't exist because they mix it before it goes on the tankers. There are advertised mid-grades in Mobile that are supposedly ethanol free, but I dunno where they are getting the fuel. I just use the additives and it takes care of my needs. Marinas have ethanol-free gas from what I'm told. I hate the shit because I lost power using it.

To prevent this problem in the future, you will need to use additives.  Stabil can help, but I have not had much luck with it.  I've upgraded to SeaFoam, and the stuff really seems to work.

I would echo this.  SeaFoam is the best I've used, and it's frequently touted in auto magazines and websites/forums.

Oddly enough there's a 100% gas place across from my church.  Park there on Sundays and never noticed until today.
