I feel like this is the beginning of a long "Romney is a Mormon; Obama is a Christian" campaign.
Christian discussion - Did Jesus say that governments should take from the rich and give to the poor? Or...did Jesus say that people should give of their own volition?
Because I can't remember the verse where Jesus tells his disciples to take from others and distribute to the masses.
On their own accord, just a general good rule to live by.
And just me personally - I do help less fortunate people and donate a ton of time and personal things to charity such as Goodwill or Salvation Army. I just don't need gov't taking it out of my check and forcing me to. Ive offered meals to numerous people who were "homeless". Many have turned it down because they want booze. A while back in Columbus (GA), I was in a somewhat (ok, VERY) bad neighborhood for something unrelated. Stopped off at a gas station and there was a black kid there offering to put armor all on my tires for a buck. He was about 16-17, real friendly but you could tell he was not well off. He had a bottle of armorall in one hand and a dirty rag in another. I asked him what he needed, and he explained he was just trying to buy some lunch for him and his little brother at the BK next door. I asked him if he was really hungry or just jiving me. He said he was serious, so I told him not to worry with the tire job, just to stay put and I would go buy him a value meal with no strings attached. And I did.
Most people will help people. I won't let someone starve in front of my face, and I wasn't going to let this good kid starve. He was rough around the edges and lived in a bad part of town, but hell he was out there willing to hump it to get lunch. That told me something. If a grown adult wants booze money? Fuck off.
Socialism = forced Charity.
