Almost a "fuck this and everything about it" story, but it has a happy ending.

RUTHERFORD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) — The bakery in Rutherford, N.J. that brought you the Charlie Sheen “Tiger Blood” cupcakes is now selling their confections for a cause.

Sweet Avenue Bake Shop is donating a portion of their proceeds this week to the Associated Humane Societies of New Jersey after hearing about a heartbreaking story of a dog defying the odds.

On March 16, the dog was found dumped in the garbage of a Newark apartment complex after apparently having been put in a plastic bag and thrown down a trash chute in the 22-story building.

When a maintenance worker discovered him, the pup – who was hardly more than a skeleton of a canine – was rushed to the trauma unit at the Garden State Veterinary Specialists, where he received a blood transfusion and was later named Patrick.

Patricia Scavelli, an administrator GSVS, spoke with 1010 WINS Tuesday and said when hospital officials first saw Patrick they “didn’t think he’d make it through the night.” Now, she said the dog was “getting better and better.” While extra precautions are still being taken, Patrick does not require any additional blood transfusions.

As Patrick makes a slow recovery, the Humane Societies are offering a $2,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

A not guilty plea was entered Friday on behalf of Kisha Curtis, the Newark woman accused of animal cruelty charges stemming from the discovery of a dog who’d been tossed down a trash chute and left to die in a garbage bin.

The 1-year-old pit bull, whose rescuers named him Patrick, continues to recover at an area animal hospital.

Public defender Regina Lynch entered the plea in Superior Court in Newark on behalf of Curtis, 27, the Newark Star-Ledger reported. She appeared at the hearing via a video hookup from the Essex County Jail.

Curtis faces two counts of tormenting and torturing a living creature by failing to provide sustenance and two counts of abandonment, said Assistant Essex County Prosecutor Cheryl Cucinello.

After the hearing, Kisha’s mother, Tammie Curtis, said her daughter didn’t discard the dog, but only left him tethered at the high-rise Garden Spires apartments in Newark — while she went on a trip to Albany. She implied that the dog was stolen.

“Anybody would take that dog,” the mother said. “If she tied the dog, she didn’t leave the dog to die.”

A security guard at the 520-unit complex told the Star-Ledger that the dog had been seen tied to a railing with a leather leash, and had been the subject of resident complaints for more than a month.

“It would whimper, and it would yelp when you would come up to it,” Ortman said.

A custodian found Patrick on March 16, inside a trash bag at the bottom of a 22-story garbage chute.

Judge Amilkar Velez-Lopez kept Curtis’ bail at $10,000 bond or $1,000 cash and forbid her to have contact with pets. If convicted, she faces 18 months in prison, a $3,000 fine and community service.

Patrick has been recovering at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in Tinton Falls, where he has gained two pounds since being found.

Newark, New Jersey - A visibly pregnant Kisha Curtis appeared in court yesterday with her attorney Andrew Rojas to reject a plea offer of 18 months in prison, a $5,000 fine, 30 days of community service and the termination of animal custody rights.

Rojas is asking the Court to dismiss the animal cruelty charges against Curtis alleging she tied Patrick to a railing at the Garden Spires complex and abandoned him. Rojas claims Curtis' Miranda Act rights were violated at the time she gave a statement to police admitting she abandoned Patrick hoping someone would find him and adopt him.

Meanwhile the drama continues to unfold for Patrick's custody - although the now 50 pounds of rehabilitated gorgeous and friendly canine happily hangs out in his foster home with the Garden State Veterinary Specialists' administrator, Patricia Smillie-Scavelli. Patrick, who was found in a trash bag on March 16 has continued to garner fame nationwide and brings awareness to the plight of animal cruelty and neglect.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.
