Report: Georgia cornerback Branden Smith arrested in Alabama

Georgia starting cornerback Branden Smith was arrested on his way to the beach for spring break, according to a report out of Alabama.

RickeyStokesNews.com reports that Smith was arrested for possession of marijuana shortly after being stopped for a traffic offense on Highway 431 in Alabama’s Henry County at 11:41 p.m. Sunday. An officer detected the odor of marijuana in the 2007 Dodge Charger Smith was driving and a bag of marijuana was discovered under a seat during a search of the vehicle, according to the report. Smith and passenger Danze Woods were transported to the Henry County Jail.

A spokesperson for the Abbeville (Ala.) Police Department confirmed that individuals by those names “bonded out” of Henry County Jail Monday morning but could not immediately provide details.

A tweet sent out on Smith’s Twitter account, @BrandenSmith1 at about 10:40 p.m. Sunday said “Heading to pc with @MF_CashOnli.” That account belongs to Woods, who a short time before that informed a friend via Twitter, “just passed thru abbeville.”

Smith is the second starting cornerback arrested by police this year. Sanders Commings was arrested for domestic violence/simple battery in January and is facing a March 22 arraignment. Commings has already been suspended for the first two games of the upcoming season by coach Mark Richt.

Note to those heading south in the next few weeks.  The policia are making their $$$ on Spring Breakers as they do every year at this time.  Had to hit PC Saturday and I took it easy, letting everyone fly by.  Pointed and laughed as I watched numerous cars get pulled over.  Even saw two getting their weeks ruined in Cottondale.  Damn, I thought the whole world knew that 35 means 34 in Cottondale.
