The fastest I ever ran was a 4.69. Most of the times I was timed at high 4.7. I wasn't slow. I didn't have great speed but not slow. I saw 2 people run legit 4.4 in college. Both got drafted. The thing is, I was considered "below average speed" when playing ball in college. But after I quit and started playing intramurals, I was BY FAR the fastest out there...and that was after I stopped conditioning, started drinking a lot of beer and gaining weight.

The people that say they run 4.6 or less are completely full of shit. I don't believe any body that tells me that really...

I just ran a 4.49 this morning.  The Krispy Kreme Hot Doughnuts Now sign had just lit up.

I'd run a 3.86 if the girl in your avatar said I can have it if I catch it.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

And you'd be even faster when you got it.

Hey, hey, hey bitch. Back off. I consistently ran a hand held 4.6 in high school and college. I ended up with a 4.7 on the electronic. I only ran on that a few times. I think I would have gotten it down the more I learned the right technique for running on the timer. But at 6' 2" 205, I thought I was the shiznit. Then I looked around and saw guys like Ace Wright losing skin as they ran. It was humbling. Most of the guys in the WR corps ran about a 4.5. But many times the 40 is not where you make your money. It is usually how much quicker you are in the first 5 yards than the next guy. I was not that guy. I should have switched to TE like they asked me. But I liked living too much.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

I was in the same boat as you. I was always in that 4.6-4.7 range in my prime days (early 20's), although I always felt like I played faster on the field than in a timed run. When playing/running with all the lighter black guys either in organized sports or varisty athletics classes, I was never the fastest although I thought I was pretty quick in general. But some of those dudes were just sick as far as vertical speed goes.

When I would play with 10-20 friends in the spring at a park in a flag fb game or like you said, on the intramural fields, I was usually the fastest out there 99 of 100 times. But on the organized sports team? Not hardly. Top 20% on a lucky day. People that haven't done it (yes I am looking at you John Clayton, Todd McShay, Mike Mayock), don't realize how truly fast D1 CFB and NFL players are.

JR is right - it makes what Bo and Deion did even more amazing. Same goes for Vick, Joey Galloway and Chris Johnson. To me Darrell Green is the one of the most amazing specimens that football has ever seen. To run sub 4.5 electronically over 40 - just sickening.

Regarding AJ Greene? That figures...he was fucking horrible, I'm still wondering why the fuck he was out there. I remember when he got hurt in the Ole Miss game (the OL did a lot, better with him on the sidelines).

That's actually pretty impressive Prowler.

(yes I am looking at you John Clayton, Todd McShay, Mike Mayock)

I think those guys are around the game enough to get how gifted the athletes are.  They just do what they get paid to do...analysis.  Usually, in things like the draft, they're simply repeating what they've heard scouts say.  When I read the scouting reports on the draft, and I read the stuff that is negative on all those top guys, I have to remember, it's being written not as being critical per se, but in comparison to other NFL players, or in some cases, in comparison to the "perfect NFL player for that position".    It's really the cream of the cream of the crop in the NFL.  Think about the numbers.  Each year there's roughly 3000 D1 football players.  That's just D1.  Couldn't tell you how many D2 or D3.  Most of the NFL comes from D1, but not all.  Out of all those players, and that's cut down a lot from all the HS players, only 224 get drafted each year.  When those guys give their analysis, they're giving it in relation to athletic abilities most of us can't even fathom.   I was watching a D3 QB throw the other day, and was amazed at the zip he had on the ball, and how tight his sprial was, then had to remind myself that this kid who was 6-2 or 6-3, and roughly 220 was "just a D3 QB"!
