Quote
Long before he became the most powerful man in mixed martial arts, UFC president Dana White was a boxing fan. On Tuesday during the "UFC Tonight" show on Fuel TV, White laid into superstar boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.

White called Mayweather racist for Mayweather's comments on Twitter about New York Knicks' guard Jeremy Lin. He also blasted Mayweather for failing to sign to fight Manny Pacquiao and said a 50/50 purse split, as Pacquiao has demanded, is the most logical move.

Don't worry about what all these other guys are doing and shooting your big mouth off on Twitter. What you should worry about is getting in there and making the fight that all the boxing fans want to see. Get in there and fight Manny Pacquiao. You don't deserve more of the purse. If ever there were a fight in history that should be split 50/50, it's the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. Shut up! Both of you split the money up and put on the fight that everybody, including me, wants to see.

Mayweather commented about Lin on his Twitter account on Feb. 13. He didn't really rip Lin, as numerous sites have alleged, but simply said that Lin is getting a lot of hype because of his race and that African American players don't receive a comparable amount of hype.

Mayweather comments on Lin's popularity
As the controversy was beginning to die down, White stirred it up again by ripping Mayweather on a segment called, "Presidential Address." Fuel put White's face in what appeared to be the presidential seal for the commentary.

White also ripped Mayweather for 2010 comments that the WBC welterweight champion made about Pacquiao. His most incendiary words, though, were when he flat called Mayweather a racist.

First of all, what he said I think was racist. He's made a couple of racist comments and, yes, Floyd, you're racist with the stuff that you've said. First of all, Jeremy Lin gets all of this credit because he's an Asian player in the NBA that African Americans never get? Yeah. He's getting all this praise because he's an Asian guy playing in the NBA. You say that African Americans don't get it? Really, Kobe Bryant doesn't get any praise? Michael Jordan never got any praise? The list goes on and on of the guys who completely get praised for being great NBA basketball players. Not only can he compete and make it in the NBA, the guy is tearing it up and is breaking records, you knucklehead. OK?

White, who managed boxers in the 1990s, ended his tirade by telling Mayweather to "shut up and make the fight."

Yes, I run the UFC and all this stuff. I'm a boxing fan and I want to see this fight, too. I know that I speak for millions and millions of other people. Shut up and make the fight, Floyd.

Leonard Ellerbe, Mayweather's manager, didn't hold back when responding to White's comments.

"He needs to shut the [expletive] up and mind his own business, stay in his own lane and keep on taking advantage of the UFC fighters, while underpaying them," Ellerbe told Yahoo! Sports after learning of White's rant. "If he keeps on running his mouth, we may decide to give a free seminar to all of the UFC fighters on how the pay-per-view revenue should be distributed. This is typical Dana, who is always prone to ignorant outbursts. He should be the last person to try to judge someone else."

After learning of Ellerbe's response, White sent a text to Yahoo! Sports directed to Ellerbe.

"Just for the record, shut the [expletive] up [because] I wasn't talking to you," White said by text. "I was talking to Floyd. We're doing something amazing. We're building a sport while you guys are destroying one. "

So, do you think White has a point or is it, as Ellerbe said, just an ignorant outburst by someone sticking his nose where it doesn't belong?

I agree with White though. Mayweather is a little punk ass. He is making unfair stipulations because he knows that Manny will probably kick his ass.

And on the NBA/Chinese thing as far as Blacks not getting credit - are you kidding me? Blacks ARE friggin basketball. One guy like a Larry Bird or Jeremy Lin comes along and gets some due and people go apeshit. Unbelievable.

This part of what White said is dead on:

One of the reason why I like Dana White is he shoots it straight. NBA is pretty much black dominant, minus the Europeans and several US white boys, and I don't have any issues with that whatsoeva. I mean damn, I grew up watching Jordan do some amazing stuff. Folks like Mayweather have no business doing any kind of public speaking because they only make themselves look stupid. Like said, Mayweather should be more concerned with Pac-Man.

Several interesting issues in that piece.  I agree wholeheartedly with White's take on making the fight.  Regardless of the split, this would be a huge purse and win or lose, no one's going to come away from that fight hurting in the wallet.  It's a fight any true boxing fan wants to see.  Love to hear AU1 weigh in on that because I believe he's a big fan of teh boxes.

On Jeremy Lin, while there may be just a bit of truth to what Mayweather said, he does come off as racist for even bringing it up.  Why is the hype Lin is getting an issue for him?  Lin is tearing it up in some areas.  He's had some great scoring nights and made some highlite reel plays.  But his story, his race and where he plays all factor equally in to the hype in my opinion.  Yes, he's American/White/Taiwanese...whatever...don't particularly care.....but he's the first person of his descent to do what he's doing in this sport. Is that significant?  Not really.  No more significant than every time they announce this is the first African American coach or player or President.  It's a footnote.  Doesn't matter.  Move on.

His story to me is far more intriguing because he was the last guy on the bench with no guaranteed contract...not very physically imposing...who came in to light it up with Kobe Bryant type numbers every night...in New York.  If he was doing this in Sacramento, would anyone really give a damn?

As for White and the UFC, I'm a huge fan and have followed the sport since it's inception and have been to a couple of events.  I admire White for what he's done but I would be interested in the money generated and how it's distributed.  I saw the payouts for the last event and while a couple of the headliners were taking home just over $100K, some of the undercard guys made as little as $8,000.00.  In this day and age, those do seem like extremely low numbers for a sport that has skyrocketed in popularity in the last few years.

My doctor told me I needed to stop masturbating.  I asked him why, and he said, "because I'm trying to examine you."

This guy knows.

Because a big deal wasn't made about Lebron's "the Choice". Or Jordan being the best ever (practically made Nike the invinceable giant they are today). Kids still buy Jordans. Or Kobe coming right out of HS. Wilt, Kareem, Bill Russell, Magic. Yeah, those Blacks get no credit in Basketball. They ARE basketball. Thats the ultimate due respect.

As far as the UFC contracts - last I checked, they are voluntary like any other contract. No one is making these guys do it. They agree with White on what they do for X amount of money. If they don't like it, they can go to WWE, TNA, Boxingor another similar sport.  Or even choose another career. Its really not anyone's business but White and the fighters.  Mayweather/Ellerbe are simply trying to distract with that point.

The fighters needs their coaches and managers to get them that money. The fighter trains and fights, thats kind of how its suppose to work. I do agree in part though with whats shared. The UFC has exploded in popularity since White took over making millions of dollars doing it. While my following of the cards has tapered off some, I do know that they have a mainstream contract with Fox that has to be paying big bucks.

Oh, lets not forget that the UFC's popularity has all but closed the doors on other MMA big dogs.

Unless something changes, as in both get new promoters, this fight is not going to happen.  Floyd is a little punk ass that is scared of his record getting blemished and lets call a spade, a spade...........PacMan is scared as well.   Say what you want, Floyd is great at what he does, slick defense and pot shots to win rounds.  PacMan is great at what he does, attacks from all angles, quick combos and then takes a different angle on the way out.   Both of them are scared of one another.

I saw Floyds tweet about Lin.......Fuck him.   He must have went to that Benard "ain't no white boy ever gonna beat me" Hopkins school of thinking.
