I guess I'm a goat fucker.

Quote
Specifically, Justin was put off by the coach going with his “I can get your son into the NFL” pitch

That damn Saban.  How dare he use the NFL and millions of dollars as a recruiting pitch to a high school football player.  What an asshole.

Quote
As she had told other reporters, she also told me she was upset about the recruiting process and "the politics that surround it."  Most worrisome, April said, was that "At ‘Bama they want to red shirt - or grey shirt - him and they want him playing nickleback instead of safety. He is the top safety in the country and he will never play a game his freshman year. Now, at LSU coach Les Miles is offering to play him as safety during his freshman year. His (Nick Saban's) goals don't meet the criteria of the family; they meet the criteria of Alabama."

That damn Saban.  How dare he be honest with a kid and tell him that, although he is a superstar, he will likely not play his first season.  He should have lied and promised him that he would start on the first snap.

Quote
What were, then, her goals? "For Landon to win the Heisman Trophy and to be able to play close to home at LSU with his younger brother, Gerald, who is also an outstanding football player who has offers to play at LSU."

Yeah, because safeties (not nickelbacks) win the Heisman trophy on a regular basis.

Quote
Was there anything else that didn't sit right with April? As it turned out there was. It had to do with Landon's girlfriend, Victoria. ESPN The Magazine reported about a confrontation between April and Victoria at the All-America Game after Landon's sister had urged her to stand onstage for his big announcement. April wanted only family in front of the camera. Landon's dad, Thomas, ended up having to intercede. When the cameras began rolling, there was Victoria standing directly behind Landon.

With all of this author's research, I wonder why she left off the part about who Landon (the person ESPN was actually there to talk with) wanted on the stage with him?  I'm sure it was by accident, and Landon really didn't want his GF on the stage with him.

Quote
What the article didn't mention, however, was the reason April was apparently upset, which may have tipped the scales in Alabama's favor. According to April, Victoria had allegedly been offered a job to work in head coach Nick Saban's office.  I

In all fairness to Saban and Alabama, I have been unable to independently confirm April's story on this point (Citing NCAA rules, Doug Walker, Associate Athletics Director, Communications, at the University of Alabama, stated in an email to MomsTeam that the school "would not comment on anything relating to the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete."  Asked if Landon's girlfriend had been offered a job, he stated, "I have no information regarding that.").  All I know is what April told me.

But suffice it to say, April appears to have reasons for feeling the way she does about her son's decision, and they have less to do with her being an LSU fan and a mom who doesn't want to let go, and more to do with her understanding what was happening behind the scenes, outside camera range, that may have played a role in that decision that didn't square with the way she raised her children.

And there it is.  The breaking news that was reported by no one else.  The smoking gun.  The proof that bammer cheats.

Except there is  no proof.  Instead, we only have a rumor. A rumor started by a mother who is clearly an LSU fan. A mother who is pissed about her baby not following HER family plans.  A mother who is absolutely opposed to her baby's girlfriend.  A mother who has no problem with ruining her son's big moment and embarrassing him on national television.

I wonder why he lives with his dad?

And the point many have missed?  The part that many football fans are guilty of but never want to admit, including myself?

Last year, when Cyrus wanted to attend Auburn but his parents were against it, Bama fans 100% believed parents should have input.  Auburn fans were pissed because parents wouldn't let the kids decide for themselves.

This year, Bama fans believe it's Landon's life and he should decide on his own.  Auburn fans believe something is shady because Landon won't do what momma wants.

A bunch of hypocrites, we are.

Could be mom is a good judge of character, and doesn't trust Sabinz.  I'd add "as far as she could throw him" but she could probably toss that midget a good ways.

AL.com chimes in on the story...and only 5 days later.

Alabama commit Landon Collins' mother accuses Saban of violation
Published: Monday, January 30, 2012, 9:05 AM
By Matt Scalici, al.com

April Justin, the mother of Alabama football commitment Landon Collins who made headlines when she expressed her disapproval of her son's decision on live television, alleges in an interview that Alabama head coach Nick Saban offered a job to Collins' girlfriend. According to NCAA bylaws, however, this would not constitute a violation.

MomsTeam.com writer Brooke de Lench wrote that "according to April, Victoria had allegedly been offered a job to work in head coach Nick Saban's office.

The NCAA passed a new bylaw in 2010 pertaining specifically to men's basketball that prohibits a university from employing an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete. This bylaw, however, does not apply to college football recruits. According to NCAA bylaw 13.8.3.2:

"In men's basketball, during a two-year period before a prospective student-athlete's anticipated enrollment and a two-year period after the student-athlete's actual enrollment, an institution shall not employ an individual associated with the prospective student-athlete in any athletics department non-coaching staff position."

Brooke de Lench said she was unable to confirm the allegations and cited University of Alabama Associate Athletics Director Doug Walker, who said in an email to de Lench that Alabama "would not comment on anything relating to the recruitment of a prospective student-athlete." Asked if Landon's girlfriend had been offered a job, Walker stated, "I have no information regarding that."

On Monday, Alabama officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment by al.com. University officials are banned by NCAA rules from commenting on recruits.

In an interview with ESPN Magazine, Justin stated that she was involved in an altercation with her son's girlfriend Victoria Lowery just before Collins announced his commitment to Alabama. Justin also told ESPN Magazine that she was offended by Saban's recruiting tactics saying "I think he stereotyped me."
Collins has repeatedly stated in various interviews that he intends to follow through with his commitment and sign a letter of intent to Alabama on National Signing Day on Wednesday.

So, to recap.

al.com spends five days until a loophole in the NCAA rulebook can be found and exploited to apply to this situation before thinking about running a story on it.

There is a rule against it, but it pertains only to basketball. Why the fuck would that loophole not be closed for all sports? In what warped interpretation of the NCAA rule book is it totally fine to offer a recruit's girlfriend cash, that she of course will give to him, only if the kid signs to play at your school?

[slight tangent]
All the hoopla over the Cam rule, which is now much more exploitable since the "loophole was closed", than when it was open. Everyone disregards that his dad had those discussions with Mississippi State boosters, not at Auburn. Now with the "loophole closed", Joe Schmo Auburn fan can offer money to recruit XYZ who's committed to Bama to play at Auburn, and that kid can't play anywhere ever again. Because someone discussed payment with another school on behalf of the player, even if they had no idea about it, and even if it was to a totally different school. All of that was a disgrace to the NCAA that such an atrocity could allow Cam Newton to be eligible, but this is ok? Are you shitting me?
[end tangent]

The uat officials are declining comment, essentially admitting guilt. Major publications are reporting on this now, citing the al.com story.

But RWS still thinks I'm reaching that Saban offered this kid's girlfriend a job.

Let me guess, you meant I was reaching that it was a violation. Because you knew about this loophole.
