Okay...question. I have no dog in the fight. Couldn't give two bigger farts in the wind whether TB and Kelly contracted the goat aids. Just wondering why most think Kelly would be such a colossal flop in the NFL. He's got a pretty diverse resume when you check teh Wiki's. Even though a lot of his experience was at smaller schools til he hit Oregon, he's coached about all the postions plus being a DC. As OC and head corch with the Ducks, his offenses have obviously ripped it up. He's played for a MNC and won a Rose Bowl and is 34-6 as the head man.
Seriously, don't care if he took the gig or not. Just looking for concrete reasons why the guy is an automatic bust in most people's view.
Because it is the NFL, where putting a running back at the QB position 5 plays a game earns you the distinction of being a wild eyed eccentric who runs a gimmicky offense.
But seriously, I think he would be a bust because if he runs the offense he runs at Oregon it would take a complete overhaul of an NFL team from top to bottom. Pretty much every NFL team runs 85% of the same offense and the players are all the same. To run a no huddle spread you would need your linemen to slim down to keep up with the pace, a certain skill set at QB, RB, and WR, those skill position players able to stay on the field since you do not have time for substitutions, a DC who would be willing to take a job where he is constantly going to have his guys on the field due to the offense shuttling on or off quickly (either successfully or not), and a GM who is willing to buy in to get you the players to do this.
In college you turn over an entire roster in 4 years whether you want to or not, in the NFL the players are under longer contracts and you can't turn them over fast enough to completely blow up an offensive system which leaves you with players that are unable or unwilling to fit into your new system. It would be ugly for 2-3 seasons and a NFL coach doesn't get a 4th season if it looked that bad for the first 3.
