Get the right coach and the recruits will come. Make a "Splash Hire" and the headlines/ticker tape at the bottom of ESPN will recruit itself.

In College, it's more around 60% coaches. In the NFL, it's more around 60% players.

It is about players, not Xs and Os.  I don't know why, BUT if the case is, that he's already got the name, and that guy doesn't want it revealed to the public yet, then it shouldn't be an issue in recruiting because certainly Chiz would at least let the recruits know the direction they're going, and that they have a name locked up and there's no uncertainty.  He might even have permission to tell the recruits who it is.  I don't know, but I don't see how it could be anybody but a guy who is still competing.  I could be wrong there.  Could be he's been turned down by forty eleven guys, and is now begging HS coaches to join up.  I don't know, my phone hasn't rang, I can tell you that.  I suspect he's got it locked down. 

I'd bet it's a 50/50 chance that half the people on this board will say "who?" when the hire is made, and most won't like it because it's not a "great hire" because it's not a "hot name".   Lots of guys out there running effective offenses at the college and pro level that you've never heard of or at least not paid attention to  There'll be lots of the standard "Yeah, he was ok, but that's not the SEC" or if it's an NFL guy, somebody will cherry pick some game or season to prove he sucks, when in reality he had no players, or had key injuries.

I got a feeling the "I want a pro style offense" crowd will be pleased at least a little.

The funny thing to me is, if I were a WR being recruited last year, there is no way I look at the Malzahn offense from last year and think that is where I want to go. It seems we have had several good prospects come in at WR over the last couple of years and NONE of them produced anything last year.

I'd almost wholeheartedly agree with you, but we're too close to signing day for a late OC hire to get enough of a spark. 

What OC candidate is out there that is such a hot name that kids won't feel the need to get to know the guy before signing?  I mean, we're talking a week and a half, and as of Friday, 1/20 at 6:15pm, we don't have an inkling to who it is.

I'll say it again, with the uncertainty of which direction you're going to go (at the start of the OC search, Coach Chizik stated that he's unsure of what type of offense Auburn will run in '12 and he meant it), the hiring of a Coordinator is more important than recruits. Uncertainty, in recruiting, is very damaging as it gives rival recruiters PLENTY of ammo when they negative recruit (FSU, UGA & uat).

Agree that Chizik has not disappointed.
Offense must be multple and the individual(s) must be from among the NFL playoff teams, otherwise all of the waiting around has been a colossal fail considering what Auburn is willing to pay.
Time is wasting so I expect a big-name hire. Why should any of us expect less?
