Meh. When I first read this last night it was from a Bama beat writer and it was a completely different story than what the AJC wrote. Homers write homer articles.
BUT, I am growing weary of the commitment game. If a kid is offered a scholarship to play football, and he accepts, that should be a binding agreement unless the kid doesn't handle his business off the field. If he keeps his grades up, if he stays away from trouble, he should be given the scholarship that he was offered. IMO he did his job and should be rewarded for it.
Recruiting shouldn't be handled like a draft board. If you don't want/need a player, don't offer. Or at least, don't offer 6 years before he can sign a letter of intent.
