Kevin Greene, the defensive end/outside linebacker who walked on at Auburn in the early 1980s and turned himself into one of the NFL’s best pass rushers, has been named one of this year’s 15 finalists for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Greene began his NFL career with the Los Angeles Rams in 1985 and played in the NFL for 15 years as a pass rusher on the outside for the Rams, Steelers, Panthers, 49ers and then again with the Panthers. By the time he finished playing, Greene’s 160 sacks were third-most all-time behind Bruce Smith and Reggie White.

Greene currently serves as the outside linebackers coach for the Green Bay Packers, where he has helped turn Clay Matthews into a three-time Pro Bowler.

The 15 modern-era finalists will be the only candidates considered for Hall of Fame induction when the 44-member Selection Committee meets to vote in Indianapolis the day before the Super Bowl.

To be inducted, Greene has to receive a minimum of 80 percent of the vote.

Got a good customer in Pittsburgh and to hear him tell it they still love the hell out of him up there.

I remember hearing one story about him right after he had been drafted by the Rams.  They put him on special teams covering kickoffs and the coaches had to tell him to ease up hitting the starters.  I also remember hearing him say that his transition to the NFL was nothing because the practices at AU under Dye had been so hard.

Former AU LB Kevin Greene in the WCW in the late 90's.



Greene was just listed as an NFL HOF finalist.
