Quote
Gene Chizik says in the event of Gus Malzahn leaving, he has potential replacements in mind

Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn is a hot name in coaching circles, and with the college football coaching carousel getting revved up, Malzahn’s name has been mentioned as a possibility for several coaching jobs, including North Carolina, Ole Miss and others.

Malzahn’s name has been linked on some websites with North Carolina because the athletic director who hired Malzahn at Tulsa, Bubba Cunningham, is now North Carolina’s athletic director, and the Tar Heels are playing under interim coach Everett Withers right now.

Ole Miss has also been mentioned as a fit by many media outlets because the Rebels are believed to want an offensive coach.

If Malzahn leaves, Chizik said, he has potential replacements in mind.

“You have several guys in the back of your mind,” Chizik said.

Asked whether or not he has contingency plans in place in case Malzahn leaves for a head coaching job before the bowl game, Chizik said it’s something a head coach has to be prepared for with anybody on the staff.

“I think I have to be prepared for anybody on the staff to have opportunities at other places,” Chizik said.
Was reading on Twitter that the statements kind of came out of no where unprompted and "seemed prepared."

I think we're stuck with Gus.  He's proved he can't coach this year.  Nobody wants him.

Terrible, terrible answer, Coach Chizik.  Where's the typical coach speak?

It may not be a big deal, but this could affect recruiting.

That should have been the only discussion.  Coach, do you have a plan in place if Gus leaves?

Fuck that, I'm only concerned with finding a defensive coordinator with a football IQ above 12.

That was Cam and Fairley.  We got our asses handed to us last Sat.  That NC was eons ago.  Last Sat. is the last thing he's done.  It wasn't good, and now he admits he's had to think about what to do in the event Malzahn leaves?  Moron, can't coach.  Fire him.

You don't normally hear coaches say this openly but it's reality.  Down year or not, Malzahn should at least be a candidate for these positions and I'm quite sure Chizik, as all coaches should, keeps a contingency plan in place.  Personally, I'm fine with CGM.  I'm just like any other Monday morning QB and I question some of the strategy but ultimately, I think you give the guy a decent line and a half ass QB and he'll put numbers on the board for anyone.

There'd be just as many people say it was a terrible answer if he'd said: "Haven't even considered Gus leaving."  People would say he's not thinking ahead.

Gus, with a decent line, and decent QB...suddenly will understand football strategy again.  Funny how personnel will do those things for you or to you.

I would also suggest to you that after Saturday's game, we will have faced 2 OCs that are at or near the top of that list.

JR, I am gonna guess you take some sort of blood pressure meds or anti-anxiety medicine...right? You're gonna stroke over some of this stuff if you're not careful.
