Yeah, something's weird about that.
The entire purpose for synthetic weed's existence is that it is untraceable on drug tests. The only reason people use it is if they know they have to take one. The main ingredient is a synthetic molecular "recreation" of THC that mimics the molecular structure and basically has the same effects.
Which is why I don't think it was a failed drug test. I think they were caught high or smoking something that was obviously not a cigarette. Or perhaps busted with something worse and it was covered up.
We had a DEA agent come speak to our school about "Salvia." He showed how "salvia" is just a plant, and the synthetic marijuana is a chemical that can be created using an almost uncountable amount of combinations. You could essentially apply the chemical to any plant and get the same effect after smoking it.
The problem with detecting it is that they can't test the plant to see if any of the possible combinations show up. They have to test to see if a particular combination of chemicals is present in the plant. It's pretty much a crapshoot; therefore, it takes months to determine if a plant has a chemical that mimics the effects of THC.
Those chemicals work the same in urine. You can't just take a piss test and see if they have any chemicals in the urine. It's the same with THC. They're testing specifically for THC. They know marijuana has THC in it, so it's not a Where's Waldo search.
So how they busted these kids for "synthetic weed" is unbeknownst to me. I saw some black helicopters heading to Baton Rouge though.
