NBC/WSJ poll: Cain now leads GOP pack
The pizza CEO's ascent, and Perry's decline — probably not the last shakeup

Fueled by Tea Party supporters, conservatives and high-interest GOP primary voters, former Godfather’s Pizza CEO Herman Cain now leads the race for the Republican presidential nomination, according to the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll.

And in yet another sign of how volatile the Republican race has been with less than three months until the first nominating contests, the onetime frontrunner, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, has plummeted to third place, dropping more than 20 percentage points since late August.

“Cain is the leader ... That’s the story,” said Democratic pollster Peter D. Hart, who conducted this survey with Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

It's almost unbelievable.  It was very encouraging to me last year to see a lot of local long-tenured politicians get falcon punched as ballots were pouring in. I'd love to see it continue, but honestly never thought I'd live to see the day where pissed off voters finally took the election process seriously.

I second that. America was ready for a black president, it just didn't need to be Obama. Cain would be great.

Right...  Interesting situation right now...  Repubs just blocked Barry's "jobz bill" in the Senate.  Of course, spending bills can't originate in the Senate, but that's just another minor Constitutional issue that Barry and the Demz would have shit on.  Back to the situation...  If the Repubs continue to block this thing, the Demz are banking on blaming the Repubs for the continued economic situation.  The Repubs need to step up on this.

I keep hearing this said by the media and keep thinking, "Isn't the Senate ran and controlled by the Democrats?"

It's the Republicans fault but yet you have folks like Senator Jon Tester and Senator Ben Nelson that have blocked it and others in the Democrat caucus that openly oppose it but broke filibuster only to debate it more.    Those damn evil Republicans, I am sure they have some sort of mind control machine they are using.

This sums up how I feel. I don't a flying shit if the Prez is black, white or whatthehelleva. This country needs a real change and it needs to happen soon or I am afraid the damages will be too great to ever overcome.

If the GOP is indeed frozen - and I think it is, I am voting for Herman Cain. I just love this guy.

I remember hearing him on the radio outside of Atlanta a couple of years ago. Everything he was saying made sense. I remember thinking to myself "now, this is what we need - a guy that makes sense. He would make a good President". Never did I think the guy would be this close to the nomination 2 years later. The media outlets, especially Foxnews, declared that Cain practically had no shot in hell of even making it to the top tier. Well, he is now the front runner.

Suck it Karl Rove, Foxnews and all of the other neocons.

Suck it CNN, MSNBC and all of the other liberal outlets that call him an Uncle Tom.

Fuck all of you aholes in DC and in the media for doubting this guy and personally attacking him. It seems to have only made him stronger.

Two cautions here.

First, this is a national poll of GOP Primary voters.  The ONLY polls that matter are the Polls taken in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, and Florida.  These are the first Big 5 primaries.  For Cain to get the nomination he must win most if not all of these states.  I have not seen any recent polls taken in any of these states mainly because the shifting schedule due to Florida moving it's primary up to January 2012.  Cain won there (Florida) and can win South Carolina.  I think that he can win Iowa with the big support there for Tea Party candidates (remember Bachmann won big there).  I do have serious doubts about New Hampshire and Nevada along with Minnesota, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Arizona, Missouri, and Michigan which all come before Super Tuesday I on 6 March.  Romney is very strong in those states and has a presence there.

Second, money.  He's going to need boatloads of it to sustain his primary campaign then boatloads more to defeat The Pharaoh.

With the primaries and caucuses moving up that could help Cain since he has the momentum now along with a great message that resonates with primary voters.

Romney can forget the South. Sc and Fla are Cain's to lose. Midwest is a toss up. And of course Romney has the north east maybe aside from New Hamp, which is always a toss up. People said McCain didn't have enough money in 2008. If McCain defied the odds, than anyone can. Guy was a putz IMHO.

That is the problem that I see.  Cain can win the South (maybe the mid-west) but not the Northeast.  Romney can win the Northeast and Mid-west but not the South.

It's a matter of picking the right running-mate at this point but that's another topic.
