Hillary says she's staying in the race but, wow, listen to her logic (this was an excerpt of what she said before a newspaper editorial board meeting):

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

Obama commented with the following:

"Sen. Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign," Obama campaign spokesman said in a statement.

Clinton has since apologized but you just know that this open-mouth-insert-foot moment will NOT soon be forgotten.  And I'm no big fan of the Kennedy's by any means but this was a stupid thing for her to say.  (Of course if she was a Republican she'd have to back out of the race and resign from her Senate seat in shame.)

She'll be full red pant suit alert the next few days...

Hillary Clinton today brought up the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy while defending her decision to stay in the race against Barack Obama.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," she said, dismissing calls to drop out.

Obama's camp immediately fired back.  "Sen. Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign," Obama campaign spokesman said in a statement.

Clinton made her comments at a meeting with the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader's editorial board while campaigning in South Dakota, where she complained that, "People have been trying to push me out of this ever since Iowa."

Obama, the first African-American to advance so far in the race for the White House, has faced threats, sources have said.

Robert Kennedy, the younger brother of President John F. Kennedy, was gunned down in 1968 after winning the California primary. He had been a hero on the left for his civil rights agenda and calls to end the war in Vietnam.

Barack Obama, who leads Clinton by nearly 200 delegates and has already secured a majority of pledged delegates, has been the subject of threats. Early in the campaign, the Secret Service gave him a security detail at the request of Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Illinois).

Clinton criticized an "urgency" to end the campaign prematurely, saying, "Historically, that makes no sense."

She later issued an apology for the remark.  "I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation and in particular the Kennedy family was in any way offensive. I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever," the former first lady said.

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson defended the comments to The Post, "She was talking about the length of the race and using the '68 election as an example of how long the races in the past have gone -- she used her husband's race in the same vein."

NOT THAT I EVER EVER EVER WOULD DEFEND HILLARY....  in fact, I LOVE LOVE LOVE seeing her desperation.  She invested  years of her life putting up with her whore of a husband in order to get her turn - and for what?  NOTHING, bitch!!  HA!!!  He's still a whore, people still hate your guts, and you are still a fucking bitch.

But as poorly worded as her comment was, her point was that it was June and Bobby Kennedy was still campaigning - he did not yet have the nomination sewed up.  She fucked up the reference.  She should have said something like "Bobby Kennedy was still on the campaign trail in June when he was assassinated."  For anyone to intimate that she was "gunning" or "threatening" Obama is just ridiculous.

But that is yet another example of how poorly she has run this race - she just assumed - obviously VERY incorrectly - that she was the nominee without having to do anything, and once she realized she was in a two horse race and losing ground every minute, she started getting desperate and panicking and the result is stupid ass fucked up statements like this one.

Well said and I did get her point.  Be that as it may under the circumstances of Teddy Kennedy's (who I politically loathe) medical issues last week it was probably best for her not to have used that reference as an example at all; her point was made without it.  The irony there is the dead (and sick) Kennedy's for one thing and coupled with the double-irony of the "Clinton Body Count" it makes the reference she made all the more dubious not to mention thoughtless.

My Democrat co-workers have been awfully quiet lately; they used to promote how smart Hillary is...I can't get enough of seeing her political agony this season in the drubbing she's getting from the press and from a political upstart with even less experience than her own...and the nomination was supposed to be her coronation...high comedy as far as I'm concerned.

She sold her soul when she set aside pride and principles in favor of staying with the Redneck Gigolo for future political advantage.  To paraphrase a biblical parable, the foolish woman built her house upon the sand and the rains came a-tumblin' down.

High comedy indeed.  The only thing better than seeing a Republican kicking a Dim's ass is seeing two Dims hack at each other.  Priceless.
