"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I watched him on his first series.  I am gonna go with out of shape.  He was breathing so hard, I thought he was going to fall over in his stance.  He had some trouble getting into his stances too.  He looked like a total fat ass.  I know he has been hurt but keeping up his conditioning is critical.  He did have one nice spin move to get around a blocker, so the speed is still there, but the fastest he moved all night was in a race to the sidelines.

At least he is on a winning team.  The Lions - whooda thunk it???

You don't even practice for -- what? -- six months?

Because it's a foot injury you can't do the running, conditioning type things you need to do.

He's a big boy, too.  He's gonna eat because his body has gotten accustomed to taking in massive doses of food to keep up with the constant physical grind.  Take away the grind but the appetite remains.  I'm sure he's stuffed a few pounds on.

Finally get the boot off so he can put pressure on the foot, practice for about a week and then get shoved into an NFL game where everybody else on the field had the opportunity to go through a (shortened) camp and now have five games under their belt?

I was impressed he was as effective as he was.  Give him a couple of games to get his legs back under him and to get used to doing the work again and he will be okay.  Better than okay.  That's a nasty Lion defense and it's only going to get nastier.

He almost got a sack on his second play.

I do worry about his conditioning.  He's had issues with effort in the past.  I'd hate to see his career wasted because he doesn't work hard at getting back in game shape.

Hard to condition when you can't put pressure on the foot.  No need to worry.

I agree with you about the Lion D.  That was a fun game to watch last night because their Dline was on fire.  I don't know how far this Lion team will go, but it is fun to watch.

THIS!!!  I was glad he was still nasty, but it's hard to be intimidating when your tongue is hanging out and you absolutely cannot breathe.  First game understandable.  Next game?  Better see some improvement.

Sorry, but a couple of days won't get him (or Mean Joe Green or Dick Butkus or Takeo Spikes or anybody else) in anything close to full game shape.  Much less a rookie who played his first game ever.  The boy's had essentially a week to go from nothing to being on the field for much of the game.

Expecting too much to see drastic improvement in a week.  Conditioning won't even happen in that time frame.  Even at their level, you're talking about a couple of weeks of work at best.

By week 10 or 11 he should be on the verge of being "himself" again.

That they're playing him as a rookie at all after being out that long says a lot about his potential.

No one is saying that they expected him to be at primetime level.  We're just expressing concerns that his past issues with work ethic may hinder his ability to get back to his top performance.

What THS said.  I said improvement - not full on QB killing, beastlike status.

He was in last night on mop-up duty, on a team with very little talent depth on Defense.  Not surprising he got to play.

That's not exactly what was said.

Total fat ass.

Pushed backward all night.

Only in for mop up duty when the game was over.

Tongue hanging out.

Falling over in his stance.

Etc.

He didn't hurt his wrist.  He hurt his foot.  You can't keep up conditioning in that case. Conditioning requires movement. Movement requires being able to run.

He was in by the second or third series of the game.  That's not mop up duty. That's in the rotation.

Nick Fairley participated in his first full week of practice this week since he fractured his left foot in the training camp on August 1. He was given a larger workload in each practice this week and finally got the green light to play after Sunday’s walkthrough practice.

Much ado about nothing.
