Wait...hold on a min....I see what you did there......

On a serious note though, a few Ive worked in run both for different reasons. Oracle is def world class. It is also expensive as hell and harder to find the talent to run it. I just assumed K ran SQL Server 8 since he runs .net/100% MS. In a shop his size Oracle probably isn't very feasible. For Ford, Wal Mart, most regional banks, etc? Most def.

Ive also worked with Informix (with Linux apps) and IMS (with Mainframe apps). Informix and Oracle didnt play well together at one particular place I worked with.

Was gonna apologize for hijacking thread but I guess its technically on topic.

Totally agree with you, depends on the size of the client.  Basically was trying to throw a tomato into the conversation.

Five statements of WISDOM
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity, by legislating the wealth out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friends, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Most BIG BIG financial shops still do. Cobol and IMS are still the best way to push and store a lot of data believe it or not. You may see .Net and C on the front end and in between, but IMS will still be there on the back. Cobol II can do a lot of high math and algorithms and IMS can handle loads in the millions and billions in a day.

For example, credit card and debit card transactions on Black Friday are all stored in IMS via Cobol II application code. I only know because I actually worked in that LOB once upon a time for a good while.

Unless its .Net 4 you aren't with the program. It can do some unreal shit. And of course you use SQL - its universal and used by everything, even IBM mainframe. I assume you run SQL Server 8.

And yes, I agree - if anyone knows what a man's tool is, it's you. No wait, actually its VV.

For the record, Ive never had an issue with the points system. Its not that hard really. They use points for a reason - look it up. I aint gonna google it for your ass.

Points system is like Mexican money.  I don't like.

And yeah.  SQL 8.  Currently .NET 3.5 and in the process of upgrading everything we have to 4.  About the time we get that done they'll come out with 4.5.

I used to be able to code things and build things and make things and develop things.  I used to be creative and able to see beyond the restrictions and come up with new ways to do things.

These days?  I mostly just herd cats.  I've become Mr. Carlson on WKRP.

Dislike Oracle for a variety of reasons.

Was at one time Oracle certified.  Last certification was 8i.

I'm doing applications that run entire state agencies and one national government entity.  Still don't need Oracle.  It can suck it.

I got out of coding as well a long time ago but still herd cats that do. I paid my dues with 80 hour weeks so I could tell them what to do instead of doing it. I love my work schedule now, so herding the cats doesn't bother me much.

Honestly speaking, .net 4 still sits on the .net 2 framework. Any of them are better than Cold Fusion. By a country mile.
