I have lamented the fact that he doesn't have much quick game in his repertoire at times as well. He does have one for sure...the slant/flat concept. It's used to set up the old "double move" thing (slant and go) you went on and on about the other day. Maybe he should have more. Maybe it's his Achilles heel. Maybe it will be his undoing. Fact is, many coaches that are run/PAP oriented just don't use the quick game. You only have so much practice time, and you have to use it wisely. Usually that means "getting better at what you do" rather than adding something new.
We tried some quick stuff at Clemson with Mason but he had several drops and we abandoned it. Our completion rate is 70% in the first quarter and dips into the low to mid fifty range from there. Third and three is our worst down and distance percentage and we are 14 of 18 on 3rd and 10+ to go. That's ridiculously good!
I think Gus is keen on the keeping the YPC in the 7 to 9 range which is generally a stat that stands out on good passing teams, not necessarily in rating. I'm not much on stats but I do pay attention to this one. So we tend to struggle with short distances and maybe Frazier can fill the void even more in short yardage. We are sticking with a common theme of about 25 pass attempts since Todd, through Cam and Trotter with very little variation.
