Best bars in America
« on: May 21, 2008, 10:38:30 AM »
As seen on another board.

I am calling bullshit on 3/4 of the ones they have listed for Georgia.  I think the same of the ones they have listed for AL.  What say you?

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

I would call bullshit on most of the ones listed for Atlanta.  I see The Clermont Lounge, but where's Diamond Daves and Runaround Sues?

Seriously, half of those bars on the list suck, and the rest of them blow.

On the off-chance that the fairy tales ain't bunk
And Imma keep a bottle of that funk

Brick Store Pub in Decatur is good addition to this list.  Obviously I'm biased towards a place that's a 5 minute drive or 15 minute crawl from my house, but they have one of the most amazing Import Beer menus I've ever seen.  It's like 8 pages.  They also stock heavily in high-gravity, Belgium microbrews.  You can eat dinner downstairs and experience standard pub food and all the imports you can handle, or go upstarirs to their Belgium bar and drink some beer that will really fuck you up.  The service is average but the atmosphere is cool...think workshop...lots of wood, etc.   They look at you real funny if you try to order any domestic with "light" in the name.

The rest on the list don't impress me at all...they're all a dime a dozen, except the Clermont Lounge, where you can bounce that same dime off many, many things.

I didn't read the criteria for choosing a bar but I found it a little weird to only have 7 bars from Florida.  9 in Alabama?

Yeah, but you don't want to touch that dime again.  Consider it lost after the first bounce, and don't let Blondie get ahold of you.   :puke:

A legend for all the wrong reasons.  It's a perfect place to start an out of towners bachelor party..."we're gonna see the finest ass in Atlanta"...and then to see the look on their face...then take them to the Pony to make it all better.

Where IS Diamond Dave's!!!  They list the Cleremont Lounge?!  And not Diamond Dave's.  Un-fucking-believable!

And the big list of one bar for North Carolina is bullshit too...with all the great bars in Chapel Hill?!  And they list one crappy bar in Charlotte.

Well, I guess you must study the source..."Esquire".

Not one single bar in Lakeview is mentioned in this bullshit.  Innisfree?  Barking Kudu?  Oasis?   What a crappy list.

No, I just heard it was great.
Actually, I was graced by the presence of several former AUN'ers there...including David K. Ward. :vn:
