The lone rational bama fan I know...
« on: September 21, 2011, 10:26:21 AM »
Talking to the one semi-rational bama fan I know.  The one able to give credit (and blame) where it's due.  The one not attached to Saban's dick (even though he does get an occasional taste).

This is what he says and what I suspect most loudmouth Tide fans suspect/fear:

If you guys had just a half ass defense, say one capable of holding people to 21 points, it's scary to think where you'd be right now.

You probably win the West or at least finish second in 2009.  We don't win the BCS.  You destroy everybody in 2010 and even with the loss of Cam and Nick you've got a legitimate chance to repeat this year.  Definitely a Top Ten, Top 5 team.

You're sitting at 26-3, 27-2 since Chizik got there.

And then he dives off into bama speak

What's going to happen when Gus leaves and stops propping all that up, though.  You think it's ugly now?  Wait until you're giving up 40 a game and your offense falls off and you're only scoring in the 20s.  You guys could go from 14-0 to 0-14 in two years.

Better hope you find a way to get that defense fixed.  It's what Saban does and why we're Top Five every year.

I almost agree with all of it.

I'm not part of the fringe group that thinks Malzahn is the end all, be all of the team.  But Chizik has to do something about the defense.

The tackling was so piss poor that not even Tuberville's strategy of "eat all of the clock" would help.

Been fucking saying some of that.  If we have a defense that can hold a 2 possession lead, we win 10 in '09, don't even have a scare in '10, and we're 3-0 now with a legit shot to repeat.

Don't agree that Malzahn leaving means complete collapse.  More than a couple of guys out there doing what he does, or something similar.  As long as Chiz hires a guy with credentials, and lets him coach, the offense will be fine.

Just heard an analysis of Missouri's prospects in the SEC.  It was in response to a caller who said "the SEC is everything Missouri is not"

They said "I dunno, Missouri could compete.  They could beat Kentucky, Vandy, Ole Miss...pause...Auburn."

Color me flabbergasted.  Is that how people outside our sphere see us?  I don't get it.  What do we have to do?  We've won more over the last 30 years than the majority of the so-called elite.

As one who did not grow up in Alabama and one who was not an Auburn fan until my freshman year, I can tell you that people outside of Auburn don't understand Auburn.

I loathed Auburn as a kid.  I was an LSU fan, and after the 94 game, I thought Auburn was a parasite.  They weren't a state-named school.  There was Louisiana.  Tennessee.  Georgia.  Alabama.  Florida.  And Auburn?  And they won?  Who the hell is Auburn?

I think that's the attitude of many people outside of the SEC.

What do we have to do?  Get you a gun.  Shut the fucking cock-holsters of the fucks that get on the radio and internet and call Auburn irrelevant when we're the defending National Champion.  Shut the yaps of callers that claim "We're allerebammer, and we gonna beat Auburn" immediately following Auburn beating them down in their own house.  Shut the yaps of the fucking media that will, gratis, give bammer #1 preseason following a championship "just because they're bammer and they've earned it despite all the personnel losses" but will nit pick Auburn following a Championship and consider not ranking them.    Shut the fucking yaps of all the dumbass fucks that think 25 year era of football that ended 30 years ago, is more relevant than the last 30 years!  That's what we have to do...kill the fuckers, and make the survivors fear spreading completely false shit!

And shut the fucking yaps of all the morons that call Auburn the cheatingest program out there when their own program is currently on probation, is the program with the most major violations the last 30 years,  and just missed the death penalty a decade ago, and where Auburn hasn't had a major violation in over 20 years.

From the college folk here in Texas this is what I get.

Auburn is the middle brother( like a&m), we do ok sometime but for the most part of it were a middle tier team. Won our fair share but never made it to the big dance. 2004 a distance memory and most folk outside of Auburn couldn’t tell you what our record was that year. Last year we go all the way but with media hyped controversy (truth-Un-truth?) all they know is what they hear from the talking heads. Once again the SEC is in the limelight. We also had the two best players in the land and now they’re gone.  If it wasn’t for them why are we struggling now? (Good point)

I try and explain (past 30 years-our record in the sec-etc)  waste of my time.

Outside of the south-the rest of the media is tired of the SEC and enjoys seeing teams fall. It just happens to be Auburn this year. God helps us if a TCU or Boise ever make it to a MNC- They'll all be talking with cum spewing from there mouth.

I guess Auburn being #11 all time in both wins and winning % the last 30 years, ahead of bammer, is meaningless?  Doing that in the SEC.  The last 30 years in the SEC we are the #3 team in wins, winning %, and only UF has more SEC titles than Auburn over that time.  We're in the top 1/4 of the top conference in the nation the last 30 years and we're nobody, an afterthought?  Why?  It all starts locally!  Alabama hits the skids from 1981-2006 with one great year (like so many other also ran programs) and they're still "Alabama"?  Auburn has dominated bammer for much of that time, and at worst been toe to toe with them, and we're irrelevant?  It all starts with what pours out of the local press.

Oh, and for your idiot Texas friends:

1981-2010

Auburn: 255-104-5, 6 SECC, 3 Undefeated Seasons, 1 NC

Texas: 255-107-4, 3 Big 12 and 4 SWC Titles, 1 Undefeated Season, 1 NC.

I guess Texas just does ok sometimes too.

Like bammer, they use an era of football that ended with Royal's retirment in '76, to call themselves "the elite" of college football, and call programs like Auburn "middle brother".

Auburn is a top 15 program lifetime, and has surpassed many of the "all time elite" the last 30 years to become a top 10 program.

It starts at when they started requiring face masks in college football.

And it has nothing to do with the Iron Bowl.  Nobody said anything about the Iron Bowl....that year.

A couple kind of surprise me in BYU being as low as they are.  Seems like they're always a 10+ win team dating back to the early 80' and that string of QB's they've had.  And Fresno?  Really?
