Problem? Maybe. Not very flattering. http://coachesbythenumbers.com/ted-roof-and-the-art-of-failing-up/
Fuck me running...I don't recall too many people bitching about Roof's hire, but this recordTed Roof teams since 2001: Given up 30 or more points 55 times Given up 40 or more points 29 times Giving up 29.7 points/game on average Giving up 400 yards/game on average Average national scoring rank (82) Average scoring conference rank (9)Fuck! Chiz screwed the pooch on this decision. He must fix it!
Yeah that was the thing that caught my attention from the link, I don't really care what he did as the head man at Duke. I don't know where you find the stats and I am too lazy to google them, but I wonder what it was like before 2001? He was DC at GT in 99 and 00, and I think he did a stint somewhere else too?
It may just be speculation on my part, but I think the Roof hire was just as much about recruiting lights out in Georgia as it was about coaching. Roof and Rock had Georgia locked down the last 3 years. IMHO, its not worth it to have him. Plenty of good Defensive coaches out there who can also recruit well.
Recruiting was why Knox was kept around, and our WRs were hard pressed to ever catch a pass. And, I understand why you'd hire a guy to be a recruiter, and not so much for his coaching skills. But IF Chiz hired him for that, then HE has to run the defense for real, and let Roof be the DC in name only.
