Walked Into a Lamppost? Hurt While Crocheting? Help Is on the Way
New Medical-Billing System Provides Precision; Nine Codes for Macaw Mishaps.

By ANNA WILDE MATHEWS

Today, hospitals and doctors use a system of about 18,000 codes to describe medical services in bills they send to insurers. Apparently, that doesn't allow for quite enough nuance.

A new federally mandated version will expand the number to around 140,000—adding codes that describe precisely what bone was broken, or which artery is receiving a stent.

It will also have a code for recording that a patient's injury occurred in a chicken coop. (See code.)

Indeed, health plans may never again wonder where a patient got hurt. There are codes for injuries in opera houses (see code), art galleries (see code), squash courts (see code) and nine locations in and around a mobile home (see codes), from the bathroom to the bedroom.

Some doctors aren't sure they need quite that much detail. "Really? Bathroom versus bedroom?" says Brian Bachelder, a family physician in Akron, Ohio. "What difference does it make?"

The federal agencies that developed the system—generally known as ICD-10, for International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision—say the codes will provide a more exact and up-to-date accounting of diagnoses and hospital inpatient procedures, which could improve payment strategies and care guidelines. "It's for accuracy of data and quality of care," says Pat Brooks, senior technical adviser at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

FedGov wants to get to know us better; what better way than to have a detailed classification system of injuries when we have to get treatment under ObamaCare.  They will not only know what's wrong but how, where, when, and why behind everything.  The Pharaoh loves us.

You see the same naive way of thinking now - in regards to govt's intent- as you read about back in Nazi Germany.

Hitler: "Please - give me your guns. It's for your own good. No one will hurt you. It's all for the better of society, I promise. Trust me here."

Citizen: "Ok, it sounds like a real good idea I guess. Here, have them. I trust you."

Hitler: "Thank you.....NOW!!!! YOU WILL DO WHAT I SAY THIS INSTANT OR DIE!!!! Understand??"

I really wish you all would realize that Obama is not a dictator and does not single-handedly enact laws and programs to ruin our country.

Before we can even begin to remedy the sickness plaguing our country, we have to first destroy the source: groupthink in political parties.

Political parties in general, really.

The fact that you can check "Just Vote All Republican/Democrat" should be enough to tell you that this country is headed down the shitter.

Do you know what backroom deals are? See the Healthcare Plan. See Cap and Trade.

With a democratic congress the first 2 years, the only thing keeping this asshat from running this country totally off a cliff was that he did not have a majority on the supreme court. Ideoology flows from the top down. All of these depts we have are headed by Cabinet appointees. Appointed by the President usually in line with ideology. Do the math.  i.e. Janet Napolitono, Eric Holder. Why cant Eric Holder - Atty General (appointed by Obama) explain why it is necessary to raid Gibson with fed agents BUT NOT invesitgate the Black Panthers who were threatening people outside of a voting precinct? Why wasn't that a hate crime Mr. Holder? I know why. Because it doesn't fall in line with his ideology. Activist judgement.

And, he's doing a damn good job enacting laws, rules, regulations and programs that are ruining our country.  At first, I really didn't think it was intentional.  Now, I'm not so sure.  I realize that he's not alone up there, but he's put most of these people in charge of these departments and organizations.  He's also created a layer of "Czars" that avoid confirmation.  Need I go on?

"Do you begin to see, then, what kind of world we are creating? It is the exact opposite of the stupid hedonistic Utopias that the old reformers imagined. A world of fear and treachery is torment, a world of trampling and being trampled upon, a world which will grow not less but more merciless as it refines itself.

Progress in our world will be progress towards more pain. The old civilizations claimed that they were founded on love or justice. Ours is founded upon hatred. In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph, and self-abasement.  Everything else we shall destroy.  Everything.  Already we are breaking down the habits of thought, which have survived from before the Revolution.  We have cut the links between child and parent, and between man and man, and between man and woman.  No one dares trust a wife or a child or a friend any longer.  But in the future there will be no wives and no friends.  Children will be taken from their mothers at birth, as one takes eggs from a hen.  The sex instinct will be eradicated.  Procreation will be an annual formality like the renewal of a ration card.  There will be no loyalty, except loyalty towards the Party.  There will be no love, except the love of Big Brother.

But always – do not forget this, Winston – always there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler.  Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless.  If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – for ever."

But you all are missing the fact that Obama doesn't act on his own.  He acts via his party, and it's how he's able to "rule."

You think the president really has that much authority?  I know you don't really believe that.  You know where the true power is.  It's in Congress.  It's in lobbyists.  It's in the 24/7 news networks.  The $400 million radio hosts.

Obama may be the face on a problem that doesn't suit your fancy, but constantly pointing the finger at him isn't going to change a thing.

So you really think that one act of bypassing congress is what has damaged our country?

Was our economy and government flourishing when Bush was in power?

Did Clinton set us up to have economic turmoil twenty years after he first took office?

Are we really going to continue blaming the presidents for our problems?

The issue is so much more widespread than the executive branch.

It's not just Obama's face.  It's his actions.  It's the positions he takes.  It's the legislation and the regulations that he pushes through without fair and honest review or debate.  It's fast-tracking a $500+M loan to a green technology company just because it satisfies your agenda and some of your top supporters are investors.

Look, his "jobs program" is more of the same thing that didn't work the last several times it has been tried.  You can't threaten the job creators with increased regulations and taxation while expecting them to hire people and grow the economy.  It doesn't work.  You can't invest in infrastructure projects and expect that to sustain any type of substantial economic activity.  Again, it doesn't work.

We play around in here, but there's a helluva lot more substance behind our rants than I think you realize.  The Chosen One is an easy target because he brings it on himself.

No...  It's just the act of a dictator.

Was our economy and government flourishing when Bush was in power?
Well, the term "flourishing" is subjective, but in comparison to today, I'll say yes...  He inherited a declining economy when Clinton left office.  He dealt with the 9/11 attacks...  Dealt with two wars and still maintained an average unemployment rate of less than 6% throughout his presidency.

Did Clinton set us up to have economic turmoil twenty years after he first took office?
Yes...  Housing bubble caused by regulations and influence extending loans to those who would not ordinarily qualify for such debt...

Are we really going to continue blaming the presidents for our problems?

It's a start and I offered it as an example of The Pharaoh's self-appointed authority.  He's set an unconstitutional precedent; I wonder where he'll go next?

The president is the face of FedGov and the face and leader of his party so he deserves blame especially this current one who took a bad situation that he "inherited" and made it far, far worse; helped by the Dems in Congress during the first two years of his reign.

I don't disagree with you about the widespread nature of the problems caused by an out-of-control FedGov but the problem is with the machine of FedGov, the people and policies that stay long after Congresses and Presidents come and go.  Ironically the only way to fix that is a courageous Congress and President guided by the Constitution rather than the power-mad party elites that we have now.

I bring in the black helicopters though.  I think he (and others including Republicans) want this kind of attention.  Because as long as the people keep shouting at straw men, the real power stays where it is.

It's telling that when a Democrat is in office, a group of people thinks it's the government vs. them.  And when a Republican is in office, another group of people thinks it's the government vs. them.

And yet Republicans and Democrats keep getting elected.

True, but it's origin is far older than that; the real problem started with the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 signed by President Jimmy Carter.

Party politics will always exist, but it has always been the government vs. them whether it be a Dem or a Repub in office.  Even under Reagan, the government sucked.  It's why many of us have always been pushing for less government influence in our lives.  It's a founding principal of this nation.

Is there another party out there that has as much funding or support as the Dems and Repubs?

Bill Clinton's drive to increase homeownership went way too far
Posted by: Peter Coy on February 27, 2008

Add President Clinton to the long list of people who deserve a share of the blame for the housing bubble and bust. A recently re-exposed document shows that his administration went to ridiculous lengths to increase the national homeownership rate. It promoted paper-thin downpayments and pushed for ways to get lenders to give mortgage loans to first-time buyers with shaky financing and incomes. It’s clear now that the erosion of lending standards pushed prices up by increasing demand, and later led to waves of defaults by people who never should have bought a home in the first place...

Some.

I write this rhetorically, but give me a third party candidate who is not a marginal, leftist moonbat; a libertarian, isolationist, marijuana- smoking wingnut; or a granola-munching, birkenstock-wearing, tree-hugging, anti-capitalist greenie and people like me might consider voting for them.
