On other boards I've seen epic teary-eyed rants about people leaving early. 

Example:

Listen, AU Family.  On this board, this is probably coming straight at the choir, but we faithfuls must live "die hard" by spreading the word to everyone we know that our team deserves our physical presence and prayers (or "best wishes") for safety and optimal physical/emotional effort until the clock runs out.  Of course, there are unavoidable circumstances to leave a game early, but such occasions don't describe the majority of the exits...seen today and of course commented upon by those who need no more reason to criticize Auburn (nor for the internet trolls who love to poke fun of what they call our "notion" of "Family--All In").

Let's see...we're behind, so let's let our team leave early.  That's right.  They can leave whenever they are however many points behind.  What?  They CAN'T? Then neither can we.

Example 2:

I made a list of all you fair weather idiot so-called fans today.
When this young team beats one of the SEC big boys
later in the year, if you come on here talkin junk to build up
your self esteem, I'm gonna call you out on it.

Others are weeping all over the creed, calling for anybody who left to be excommunicated from "The Family" and so forth. 

One guy said he left because AU was down 10, hadn't shown much offensive life, it was hot, he had kids and decided to try to get ahead of the traffic since it would take a miracle. 

The response?  He's not "All In."  He should give up his tickets. If his personal comfort is more important than supporting the team maybe he should just stay home from now on.  Auburn doesn't want or need his type. 


 

We WERE down 10.  It DID take a miracle.  When you're ten points down with under 4:00 to play the chance of turning that around is less than 10%.  I hate to see people leave, too.  I don't leave.  But I'm not going to begrudge anybody who did.  Doesn't make them "bad fans" or "not part of the Family"  The psychotic and histrionic reactions to a handful of people making an early exit is, to me, WAAAAAAY worse than a few people deciding they'd seen enough and trudging unhappily off.  It's a little disconcerting and worrisome.  Some of our people are crazy. 

Note: FWIW?  Many of the people bitching about those who left weren't even at the game.  The unintentional irony of that is lost on them. 

Worst of all...THERE WERE FANS LEAVING BEFORE THE GAME WAS OVER?!?!?! I'm sorry, that's just shameful. Had I been there, I probably would have been escorted out in handcuffs for picking a fight.

Then again I have a friend who was bragging about walking into a Bed and Beyond in Louisiana wearing Alabama garb and braying RTR at the clerk who was wearing "ugly ass purple earrings."   That's classless and ignorant.  They're stupid too.

In fact, I don't blame them.  Who wants to watch Utah State celebrate and rush the field after embarrassing Auburn the year after a national championship? 

They paid for their tickets.  Let them decide how much of the game they want to view.

I can't stand it when some people act like they're actually on the team.  Like if they say one negative comment, they've slapped Chizik in the face.  Like if they get up and leave because Auburn is losing and they want to beat traffic, they're making the players feel worse than they already do. 

It's not like anyone is being derisive. 

It could have been worse.  Auburn fans could have booed the hell out of the team like Notre Dame fans did.  But we aren't that classless.  And we've learned our lesson from the Brandon Cox years.

Leaving early to beat traffic when Auburn is blowing out an inferior opponent is one thing. Abandoning them when they are losing is entirely another. How must the players feel if they see people filing out when the scoreboard is not in our favor?

Either you're All In or you're not. Which does abandoning the team because you perceive their effort as mediocre fall under?

Leaving early because AU is down does make you less of an Auburn fan. It's pretty pathetic to look around you and see people leaving. Other fans notice and don't think that the team doesn't notice either. So yeah, if you're only able to cheer and show support for the team during the good times then you are a bandwagon fan.

I'd just rather "fans" like you stay home.  I'd rather have a stadium half filled with people who will back these kids up even when it's "too hot" or "not fun".  So yep..It's your right to leave..and it's my right to deem you lame.

Fuck the suckers stuck motionless in flood of people rubbing against their sunburn while I am drinking my beer in the shade after cruising back to the tailgate if they have a problem with it.

That being said, I stayed to the end this time. I didn't notice a noticeable drop off in attendance. Like someone said, maybe less than 1% left with 3 minutes remaining. Shit was way overblown by ESPN and subsequently the twitter/message board world.

Whatever it is they talk about, you can bet it will be about Auburn, and it will be negative.  It will be like bammer didn't even play, and doesn't face Penn St. in their house Saturday.  And when bammer does lose one, and they will, they will talk about?  Anybody?  Auburn, that's right.

Most fans were feeling like I was, we are gonna suck this year.  During the 4th Quarter I had the similiar feeling that I had during the first part of last year's iron bowl.  I didn't go but I would probably left early to go start drinking and preach the gloom and doom of this year.  As it stands I watched it from the couch and with the comeback it gave me hope that we may have a decent year.

I guess I have a different point of view.  I was very happy to see that small group of fans leaving at that critical moment when the team needed to know who was really there for them in their corner.  I was glad that group who was there only to be entertained when it was convenient and comfortable for them, rather than being there to support the team in its darkest hour taking their bad kharma with them out of our stadium.  I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw that fair weather group heading for the exits.  It gave us a chance to win.

To those who left, I salute you.

The only time I left a game early because of the way we stunk it up, was the Vandy game in '08...told my Dad that we'd be lucky to win another game and that both Franklin and Tuberville needed to be let go at the end of that horrible season. I grew even madder when a buddy called me and said, "I wonder if Tuberville is gonna try and swindle more money out of the Ath. Dept. after this crappy season." That's when I came here to vent...I'm still somewhat pissed about all of that.

I left early. And you you know how far I came. I saw a team Play uninspired, I saw a coaching staff get out coached buy fucking UTAH STATE. I was pissed, As we were leaving my wife said what if they come back? I looked at her and said, And if they do? we got out played-out coached out eveything and we we are going to be happy with a win? I could be pissed in the stadium (Win or lose) or be pissed at the RV with a cold beer. I choose beer. Did I miss the last ten minutes-yes-but the walk calmed me down as I was home. Plus I have DVR.

The crowd after the game reminds me of the AU-Ten game in 2008 we won but who fucking cared.

I left when Utah State scored the TD to go 10 up. I was about 18 rows up above the touchdown scored near the USU fans. I didn't want to see the embarrassment in person. Get back to my car and Dyer scores the go ahead while I have the radio on. About shit my pants.

And as far as Brandon goes, we should never ever do that again. Brandon never deserved that. That kid had guts and ran for his life most of his career from lack of decent OL protection. He maxed out his ability. You can't ask for much more.

Rough Flight from ATL to DFW today. Delayed-alot of Boise state folks on the plane and we flew over TS Lee-Alot of bumps.
