It's merely a reflection of just how dominant they perceived Cam and Nick to be.
We had no other players on that team. With them gone, we couldn't possibly be any good. We'd be lucky to win four games. (Saban said so, remember?)
For the record, it's probably the first time a defending national champion had to replace 17 of 22 starters and I can't think of any team ever having a more difficult schedule (on paper). The closest I can come is the 1983 Auburn team.
I don't really see it so much as a lack of respect, but a rational look at how much AU lost from that team combined with a brutal schedule.
