"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."

Excellent article! A great read. You guy make sure to pop in over there and take a minute to read a well-done article. I must be getting old because I remember those things.

I'd like to add one thing I miss.

I miss the days when rivals had respect for each other. There was banter and jokes all year, only to be replaced by insults and attacks. I remember the days when Bama and Auburn fans would gather anywhere they could and enjoy the fall weather eating some great food, poking fun at each other, but being respectful and having fun. Lots of them pulling for the other, except for ''that'' day, because they shared a common bond. They were some of the greatest and passionate fans that shared a place they call '' Alabama the Beautiful''. There were friendships created that lasted a lifetime. Gone are those days and I fear they'll never return.  It makes me sad knowing my kids will never understand what it used to be like. Just another story told to them from an old guy.

Very good article.  It brought back some memories.

How many of you used the ole "ghost runner on first" because you or one of your buddies had to go bat again?  Those were fun times.

She didn't live on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls, did she?

Damnit! I knew it. She told me she was mine and mine alone, but something told me this imaginary chick couldn't be faithful to just one guy.

BTW, great article, Kevin. 10 degrees of awesome.

Huh.  I see the opposite happening.  The old days were bitter, mostly due to bama's treatment of Auburn as a second-class institution and its fans/alum as second-class citizens.  Only recently, since bama no longer has carte blanch to cheat, has the rivalry gotten more civil.

I guess the team on top always sees the situation more magnanimously.

Gonna have to go with the counselor on this one.  it was no fun growing up and I never considered it civil.  I would actually contend it is more civil now.  I guess when the other side doesn't have anything to run their mouth about it makes it very tolerable for all others.

Bama sux.

Being in my 40's I recall every one of those things.  And yes, you do miss Quisp cereal.  My brother found one of those Quisp alien dolls on teh ebays and got it for me.  Cool as hell and brought back memories.  Of course, Quisp had a companion cereal, Quake.  (I liked Quisp better)

Great Article.

I remember mowing yards in the neighborhood for like $5 or $10.  Now all the kids want $40.00 and $50.

I miss the day when you could get your yard cut for $10

( I guess you can tell that I just mowed the grass)

Maybe I'm just exposed to it more since the invent of the internet and instant info. Maybe because I'm hanging out on an Auburn board?       I don't know.
Maybe it's like you said like times have changed and the shoe is on the other foot?
It's just my experience that the civility is worse, as far as good-natured banter back and forth. People seem to get a bit more pissed, quicker on both sides of the fence.
It's not to often you see either fan base gather and get along. I remember having common get togethers with both sides having fun without getting so offended so easily. I'm guilty of doing it as well. Just my experience though.

I've got a kid playing baseball in a 7-8 year old league.  You look around the league and see all these morbidly obese kids walking around and I just shake my head.  WTF is wrong with parents allowing their kids.....?

Well, it actually all goes back to some of the things in Kevin's article.  Again, being in my 40's, I grew up before any real technological shit came to be.  Hell, we only had 3 channels.  Atari Pong was da' bomb.  Bottom line, when you got home from school, the LAST place you wanted to be was in the house.  Nothing to do.  You hit the neighborhood, hooked up with your friends and smoked a ton of weed....no wait, that was college.

We spent every possible minute playing football, basketball, whiffleball, whatever....until mom threatened us within an inch of our lives to get in the house.  We threw water balloons at cars, made bikes and jumped over shit, rode our bikes all over town.  Unless it was Bugs Bunny or Saturday morning cartoons, TV just wasn't on the agenda.

Thank goodness my kid has no chance of being fat but I've got to admit, he'd much prefer to veg out with a Playstation or sit on the computer rather than hit the ball field.  And unfortunately, he's never played a pick up game of anything in the neighborhood...and probably won't.

haha, Times have change my friend.  Shoot, I'm only 25 years old and I remember when I was growing up we never really sat inside.  We rode bikes around everywhere, played football, baseball, and soccer.  Also, we participated in a lot of mishief.  I feel your pain.
