Michael Dyer vs. Trent Richardson
« on: July 25, 2011, 01:04:57 PM »
Michael Dyer 2010
182 attempts   1093 yards 6.0 ypc    38 longest run  5 TDs

Trent Richardson 2010
112 attempts   700 yards     6.3 ypc   65 longest run  6 TDs

Both shared the backfield with another runner. Both played in run heavy offenses. What's the difference?
Why doesn't Dyer get the love as well? Is it just Bammer hate or what?

If the love were being 100% objective, I would imagine it would have to be the "eye" test. TR looks more like the prototypical RB than Dyer does.

It should be an interesting year for Dyer. I still have my doubts that he can be a truly exceptional back. If he is able to match the stats that he did last year for this year, than I will admit that I am wrong. I hope he does, but I just don't see him having the same amount of success this year without the help of Cam.

Good question.  However, the SEC is absolutely loaded with top flight RB talent this year.  Throw a blanket over the top 4 IMO, Lattimore, Dyer, Richardson and Davis.  All horses.  Then you throw in the fact that UT returns a 1000 yards rusher and several other teams like MSU, OM and Auburn who had guys close to that mark....and it's clear that the SEC is going to be ground and pound this year.

As for MD/TR....if you step back and look at the two without orange and blue or crimpsum colored glasses, I think it's fair to say that you simply can't separate the two at this point.  TR started out as the man with Ingram being injured early on, then had to share the load as Ingram worked back into playing shape.  Dyer, didn't start out as the feature back and got more and more reps as Fumbles McFannin showed he couldn't handle the spotlight.

They're both physical freaks and both ran behind stout O-lines.  Personally, I think Dyer ran behind the best line in the country....certainly the most experienced.  Nope, Dyer isn't getting the same preseason love but this year, they both start as the #1 guy and have the chance to prove it.

I think I would have to say that I sort of agree, except to say that I think he's not getting the love because most think he was a product of Cam's existence, not the eye test, though that may factor in.

And, the offense will change somewhat without the mobility of Cam, so he'll have to carry more of the load.  His YPC will decline, but I think he can be effective, if not a star.

I think Malzahn's system alone will get Dyer and OMac their yards....as long as we get half way decent play from our line.  Dyer may have benefitted from Cam but who did Tate benefit from?

Hard to say.  Tate didn't blow up until his senior year.  Dyer was just a young pup in 2010.  Time will tell....O N E lovelly game at a time.

I think Ware might outshine all in rushing yards. IMO, LSU has the best line in the SEC.

If you like a feature back, Lattimore is your man.

But if you want a big-fast tandem, it's Knile Davis and Ronnie Wingo. Davis can catch as well as Lat and Wingo is faster.

It will be impossible for Dyer and OMac to make up Cam's 1400+ rushing yards which is why I think we see the "Wildcat." I'm hoping for Toddlike numbers out of the Auburn QB(s). Even that's a tall order.

Bama will go back to a controlled run game with Richardson and Lacy while mixing play-action as in '09.

"Hey my friends are the ones that wanted to eat at that shitty hole in the wall that only served bread and wine.  What kind of brick and mud business model is that.  Stick to the cart if that's all you're going to serve.  Then that dude came in with like 12 other people, and some of them weren't even wearing shoes, and the restaurant sat them right across from us. It was gross, and they were all stinky and dirty.  Then dude starts talking about eating his body and drinking his blood...I almost lost it.  That's the last supper I'll ever have there, and I hope he dies a horrible death."
