Good thing that Julio Jones, Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, Marcell Dareus, Dont'a Hightower, Rolando McClain, etc are/were relatively anonymous and unimportant players in recent history. JPW and McElroy were MUCH more relative to Alabama's success in the past 3 years than any of those guys.

Misses the point.

Go fuck a goat, Updyke.
You are contending that even right now, the QB on Alabama's team is easily the most recognized face of the program. I could make a case saying there are a few other guys on the team or that just got drafted that could easily be considered the face of Alabama. I'm just not so sure that the QB is "the guy" anymore. I would really consider that Trent Richardson.

But hell, what do I know. I'm just a dumb ol' racist anyway.  :taunt:

While K might possibly have gotten carried away, and I do think this is not a relatively big deal, you know that that's different.

None of them were "running the show". The QB position is a "thinking man's position". Some racist fans don't think a black man can handle that.

True story. I know a huge Bama fan, from Talladega, who is about as redneck as anyone I associate myself with. I stayed with him for a race weekend to see what it was all about, and his other huge Bama fan friend got into an argument with me about (N-words) running things. He didn't believe they were capable. The conversation started in regards for his disgust that one was about to be the President of the United States at the time. He pointed to Sly Croom as more supportive evidence. I pretty much just  'ed and ignored him after that.
I have a few Auburn fans for friends that drop the N-bomb all the time. So, I guess you're racist as well. As far as a player "running the show", I see some of the guys I listed as doing more than McElroy or JPW did. As far as how things were when Bear Bryant was coaching, I wouldn't disagree with Kaos' statements. But to state that this is how it is now and that all Alabama fans are essentially klansmen is pretty far reaching.

The quarterback of any time is the face of the program.  That's just the way it is.

And I think it's an easier case to say that McElroy has been the "face" more so than Ingram or Julio.  I saw McElroy on ESPN.  I heard him sit in with Jay Barker (another Alabama QB who gets a lot of face/voice time) on the Opening Drive.

Admittedly, I don't watch much Alabama football.  However, in the little bit I did watch, I never saw Julio's, Ingram's (well...bad example), Hightower's, Richardson's or anybody else's parents on the CBS or ESPN cameras.  However, I did see McGinger's parents and sister doing some nifty hip hop dancing at the Iron Bowl.

And there is a good reason that McElroy is sitting in a booth and not getting ready for the NFL season.

Why is that? He's more articulate? A better face for the program?

I realize this isn't specifically on point with the topic here, but years ago in the 31-7 Iron Bowl debacle, me and this old man got into it late in the game.  The game was all but over at the start of the 4th and I hollered to give Campbell a chance.  The guy in front of, whom I had previously spilled my whiskey drink on, turned around and said, "We don't need that kind of guy at QB".

Me: What do you mean?  It's not like Cobb is going to lead us in a stirring comeback.  Why not give Campbell a chance, he's the QB of the future anyway.

Words of Wisdom:  The QB position is a position where you have to think...like a fighter pilot.  You have to be able to think and make quick decisions.  We don't need a guy like that back there.

Me:  Oh, like the black quarterback who just handed us our asses today.

Words of Wisdom:  Stop spilling your damn whiskey all over me.

All are not klansmen.  But the unwashed, uneducated, never set foot on campus for anything other than a ball game contingent (which makes up a substantial portion of your fanbase) is most definitely a carryover from the ill-bred rubes who wore white robes in the 60s.   A large portion of the Crimpson horde is nothing more than the sons and/or daughters of these guys:

Gotta admit, I heard that shit yesterday.  At first I though Finescum was right that it's a non-issue in 2011, but by damn, you made me rethink that.

It will take a couple more generations to pass before this could be considered a non-issue I think. I mean as time passes, the way people think changes for the most part but the white robe wearing bullshit has had a stronghold on this and surrounding states for a long time. This shit isn't just gonna up and disappear.
